Ten Things I Hate About You (TTIHAY) is an American film that comes under the romantic-comedy genre. The film was directed by Gil Junger and stars Julie Stiles and the late Heath Ledger. It was released in the United Kingdom 9th July. 1999. Running time of the movie is 97 minutes.

I first saw this movie when a friend brought it along to one our sleepovers a few years ago. I enjoyed the movie then , and so decided to buy a copy of it for myself.
This film is actually a modern remake of the Shakespeare play "The Taming of The Shrew". But don't worry , it's not all 'Shakespear-y' . Shakespear's play is just the 'basis' of the film. This film is in fact very modern ; set in a high school. It's definitely not as dramatic (or boring!) as Shakespears' plays ; this is much more of a light-hearted fun romantic comedy. I didn't know that it was based on a Shakespeare play until I read about it after seeing the movie , otherwise if I had known beforehand that it was a Shakespeare inspired movie , then it probably would have put me off, but no I was really impressed!

Kat is considered a 'loner' at school ; her class mates think she's weird , her teachers think she's trouble and her father ignores her. Kat has a pretty younger sister called Bianca , so when Bianca starts dating the school hottie , Joey , , their father says that Kat must also find herself a date or risk having to be a chaperone. So when Joey finds Kat a date of her own , will her problem be solved ? Watch Ten Things I Hate About You to find out!
One thing that stands out for me in this film is the acting. The actors have a really good chemistry between them and play their characters so well , that they're believable. They also have the ability to be funny without trying too hard. By the end of the movie , you feel as if you know the characters really well!

When I read the 'blurb' on the back of the DVD before watching it , I thought 'oh another teenage movie that is just the same as the rest' , but how wrong was I. You wouldn't think , but this movie is in a league of it's own when compared to other films in the same genre. This film is brilliant! One thing I like about this film is the fact that you can watch it over and over again without getting bored of it , which is something I find I have to be able to do , other wise there's no point in owning a DVD if your only going to watch it once, which is something you could have done at the cinema.
I don't think that this is just a 'for teens only!' movie , just because it's based on a group of teenagers. I know 'older' (by older I mean , older than teenagers!) people who have loved this movie. So don't let the fact that it's known as a teen movie put you off.

I would recommend this film to all those who are a fan of romantic-comedies!
