Advantages: funny and entertaining

You can't fault a 90's classic rom com and 10 things i Hate about you is no different. If you don't like Shakespeare then watch this film because it's a modern version of 'Taming of the Shrew'.

Shakespeare's play tells us of Verona gentlemen Petruchio who attempts to 'tame' shrew Katherina so that he can have her dowry and so that another gentlemen Lucentio can marry her sister Bianca, who has been banned from getting married until after her sister does.

Fast forward to 1990s America, take a transatlantic flight from Verona, Italy to the USA and rejuvenate the characters and you have '10 things i hate about you'.

Katherina becomes Kat (Julia Stiles)
Bianca remains Bianca (Larissa Oleynik)
Lucentio becomes Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
Petruchio becomes Patrick (Heath Ledger)
This time the story goes that Bianca can't date until her sister does so Patrick is paid by wannabe model Joey so he can date Bianca while hapless Cameron admires her from a distance.

Heath Ledger is brilliant as Patrick Verona and the best scene HAS to be where he sings 'cant take me eyes off you' to Kat complete with dancing and a chase from security. It's a film full of brilliant lines such as:
Dr. Stratford: Hello Katarina. Make anybody cry today?
Kat: Sadly no, but it's only 4:30.
Dr. Stratford: That's my girl.
It's a typical high school rom com where they start by hating each other and end up in love. cliche. predictable but highly amusing and entertaining.

10/10.

It's also worth noting that this has now been made into a tv series by ABC Family USA. Originally i was totally against this because the film shouldn't be touched by after watching the tv series i realised it's got a little bit of brilliance of its own. Its different from the film in that the plotline changes and there are some classic one-liners. And Larry Miller reprises the role of Bianca and Kat's father as in the film and is one of the best characters in the show.
