... likeability factor. Cena does an acceptable job playing the burley Detective, lets face it this is a WWE film so you shouldn't go into it expecting anything amazing. Cena isn't the worst actor to come out of the WWE but he's a long way from being the best. Personally I just think of Cena as bland, even in the WWE; he used to have a rapper like persona but he seems to have dropped that persona in recent years and he's gone swiftly downhill. There's no questioning his talent as a wrestler but it's clear that he tries to imi...more

Premium Review 12 Rounds (DVD): 12 Rounds Of Torture (1265 words)
by - written on 29/11/09 (Very useful, 97 readings)
Rating:

When New Orleans Police Officer Danny Fisher (John Cena) risks his own life to arrest international terrorist Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen), Jackson's girlfriend is killed in a horrific car accident. Jackson is sent down for life but vows that he'll remember what Danny did and he'll have his revenge. As a result of his heroic actions, Danny and his partner Hank are both promoted to detectives. Exactly one year to the day after the incident everything is dandy for Danny, he is still a proud detective and has recently moved in with his long term girlfriend Molly (Ashley Scott). However after receiving a phone call from the escaped convict Miles Jackson, the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 12 steps in achieving cinematic banality (545 words)
by - written on 16/09/09 (Very useful, 22 readings)
Rating:

The WWE film catalogue isn't one to be proud of. The plodding vanilla action film that was 'The Marine' was saved only by a few minor items. This is more than can be said of the frankly dire 'horror' (I use the term loosly) 'See No Evil' starring everyone's favourite childhood wrestler, 'Kane.' 'The Condemned,' starring Steve Austin was a small surprise. While it was obviously 'inspired' by far superior films such as 'Battle Royale' it also gave a few surprises and set pieces that made it worth watching. So now we can hope that the films will only get better right? The result, a resounding, eh. 12 Rounds is directed by Renny Harlin, the man who ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 12 Rounds (DVD): Dumb but well directed (353 words)
by - written on 01/07/09 (Very useful, 10 readings)
Rating:

If you didn't think it could get any worse than John Cena's pretty shambolic star vehicle The Marine...then you're right. 12 Rounds is dumb, and unapologetically so (as is expected of all outings from WWE Films), serving up a slew of lengthy set pieces that are sure to keep any action fan at least intermittently entertained. New Orleans Police Detective Danny Fisher (John Cena) is one day in pursuit of highly valued terrorist Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen). He captures him, but the spatial confusion causes Jackson's fiancée (Taylor Cole) to wind up splattered by a car. Jackson swears revenge on Fisher as he is carted off to jail. The film then zooms ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lets get ready to rumble (526 words)
by - written on 17/06/09 (Very useful, 40 readings)
Rating:

Danny Fisher has chased down and captured notorious criminal Miles Jackson. Unfortunately, Jackson's lover is killed when she tries to escape. Twelve months later Jackson escapes from prison and tracks down Fisher kidnapping his girlfriend Molly and blowing up his house. This is round one of "12 Rounds", a dangerous game which Fisher must play to keep his girlfriend alive. I didn't expect much from this movie. WWE Superstar John Cena is hardly a name I would associate with quality filmmaking with his only other film efforts being a straight to DVD movie in 2006. Any film with a wrestler in the starring role tends to be a bad thing. Over the ...  Read the complete review

In a speedy chase with Miles Jackson, an international terrorist and criminal mastermind, police officer Danny Fisher uses his quick instincts and clever tactics to catch him, causing a terrible accident in which Mile's girlfriend dies. One year later, the now Detective Danny Fisher, finds out that Miles has escaped from prison and is back to seek revenge on his girlfriend's killer. Miles tells Danny that he's kidnapped his girlfriend, Molly, and explains that Danny must take part in 12 rounds of tasks which all challenge him with life or death scenarios.
