Orange Wednesday is fantastic to give you the opportunity to watch any movie even if from the trailer it doesn't look great. Due to this I went to see 127 Hours. From looking at the trailers and synopsis of the movie I was expecting another, Buried, movie but with a trapped theme. I found Buried very boring and was worried this would be the same. Luckily I was very wrong. It is very clear that a movie focussed on 1 person can be good.
Synopsis (may contain spoilers)
The movie starts off with Aron, going off on an canyoneering adventure in Utah. Aron feeling invincible like a man in his early 20s does with clear experience he goes alone, and on a mission to go fast. Along the way he bumps into a couple of girls whom he shows the exciting paths in the Utah. They invite him for drinks one evening, and this is when his luck turns. On his route back to his bike he ends up loosening a boulder that makes him fall, to make it worse the boulder lands on his right hand crushing it and trapping him in a narrow canyon, not quite at the bottom.
For the rest of the movie we engage in him trying to figure out how to survive, flash backs from his past and the mistakes he's made and premonitions of what could have been. The problem is he is trapped, he is running out of food and water, no one knows where he is, and the Utah canyons are so vast the chance of bumping into someone.... he has already used up with the girls.
This movie I really enjoyed, I was captivated every minute, at no point did I feel bored. This movie shows that with a good actor, and a good director the stories where there is one scene and one character can be really good and entertaining.
The acting by James Fanco is superb, you can end up really liking this character and feeling for him, about the terrible situation he is in through young arrogance, and how he keeps his spirits live learning from his mistakes.
The movie is realistic, but not gory, there are a few cringe worthy scenes, but nothing too bad.
This movie is well worth watching, so if you are undecided go and see it, you will not be disappointed, don't let slow movies like buried put you off this type of movie as there are no parts that are too slow, they are just right.
Summary: Quite good in comparison for this style of movie
