127 Hours (DVD)
Advantages: The Film keeps you Interested throughout even with just the 1 Dominant Character
Disadvantages: Would have been evenmore exciting had it just been a regular Guy without a lot of Survival knowledge
I've recently joined the website lovefilm.com and I've been making my way through many of the Newest releases on the site and 127 Hours is one of them. I'd never seen the trailer or anything, I'd only seen the movie posters and heard other people talking about it and it sounded quite suspensful.
The plot basically involves the main character Aron Ralston (James Franco) getting himself into an absolute nightmare of a situation when he is climbing around some Utah mountains and manages to get himself trapped under an extremely heavy Boulder. He can't move, he's in the middle of nowhere with nobody else around and nobody knows where he is, he has very little food or water and it is freezing at night time. It is his arm that is trapped under the Boulder and Aron tries just about everything to free himself and finds it virtually impossible so he needs to resort to desperate measures in order for him to survive!
I don't want to spoil the film for anyone who's going to watch it by saying any more about what happens etc. but I would like to say that I was quite surprised by how well this film holds the viewers attention considering James Franco is the only person present in a tiny space througout the majority of the film. I've watched similar films such as Buried starring Ryan Reynolds where he is buried by himself underground for the entire film and found myself very bored and willing the end of the movie to come as the character and situation hasn't kept me interested enough. But James Franco carried of the role very well and the director Danny Boyle did a brilliant job at adding in things like Premonitions, Hallucinations & Flash Backs etc. to keep me interested throughout.
As the viewer I also found myself really empathising with the character and placing myself in his situation and thinking what would I do? Which made it all the more suspensful. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen in the end, would he survive? The character Aron is a bit of an adrenalin junkie who takes part in climbing etc. quite regularly and seems to know a lot about survival which you can see in the characters actions which meant he had a good idea of what to do to try and stay alive, but this did make it a little less exciting in my opinion than what it would have had it just been a regular guy without that kind of knowledge.
All in all, this was a decent movie that both my partner and I enjoyed watching. It's certainly not one of my favourite movies and I wouldn't call it absolutely ground breaking but it was an exciting story well told and well acted/directed.
Summary: Worth a watch!
