Advantages: Funny , Acting

Disadvantages: None!

I wouldn't really call myself a massive High School Musical fan , although I will admit that I enjoyed all three of the movies. I'm not that much of a fan of the cast either ; I like them , but I wouldn't wait five hours to get their autograph or nothing. I don't really get the whole 'Zac Efron' madness thing , however when the film 17 Again , starring Zac Efron was released , I really wanted to see it , yet I didn't get a chance to see it in the cinema , and so I waited for it to come out on DVD instead.

17 Again is an American movie released on DVD in the United Kingdom on 10th August 2009. This film stars Zac Efron and Mathew Perry (Chandler in Friends). This movie is a 12A which means children under the age of twelve must be acompanied by an adult whilst watching this film. Running time of the movie is one hundred and two minutes (eighteen minutes short of two hours).
A guy regrets the way his life has turned out and wishes he could go back to being a teenager. One morning he wakes up to find he's seventeen again.

I have loved other 'body switching' films such as Freaky Friday , She's The Man , 13 Going on 30 and It's A Boy/Girl Thing , so I kind of knew this was going to be something I was going to enjoy.
I have watched Zac Efron play the role of Troy Bolton in the three High School Musical films and so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I hadn't seen Zac in other films apart from those , and because HSM is a childrens/teenage thing , his acting has been quite limited due to it being such a 'simple' role. If I'm honest , I thought that he probably wouldn't be able to act that well and that he was only cast as one of the main characters in this film because of his popularity rather than talent. However , I was suprised to discover whilst watching 17 Again , that there is a lot more to Zac Efron and he isn't just a hearthrob ; he really can act! So well done Zac!
It was also nice to see Mathew Perry in something different as I have only seen him in 'Friends' before. I loved Chandler because he had such a great sense of humour. Because I have seen so much of Mathew in Friends and nothing else , I kept seeing his character in this movie as 'Chandler' even though it wasn't him! hehe!

When the film first started , it showed Zac's character as a basketball player which made me think 'oh no not another High School Musical' and I wondered if Zac could really play any characters who were not all about basketball. I thought in a way , it was quite odd that he was playing a character that was so similar to Troy in HSM so soon after stepping out of such a similar role ; in HSM and 17 Again , both of his characters are 'Basketball-mad and want to play professionaly.
Other films such as 13 Going On 30 travel into the future , whereas 17 Again was different because it actually went back in time. I thought that the plot was interesting and kept me enterained throughout. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to this film ; because everyone has 'I wish I'd done that when I was younger' moments , so for that reason I think it will be something everyone will be able to understand. I think this is a movie for older people (as in older I mean like late teens ,and people in their 20's , 30's etc.

I thought that this film was very funny! The script had some great dialouge which I found hilarious. Such scenes which I found funny include :

Stan: [after Mike's speech about abstinence and making love, the girls put the free condoms back in the basket] I don't need this.
Stan: [grabs a bunch of condoms from the basket] Great, fine. more for me, i got enough for the whole weekend.

Ned Freedman: I got you a little present. Don't worry about the cost.
Mike O'Donnell: [opens small box] Oh. A whistle.
Ned Freedman: Don't blow it. Play big!
I found that Zac Efron and Mathew Perry complimented eachother in a funny way ; they were quite similar. They both have great comedy timing ; I found myself in stitches so many times whilst watching the film. They have great on-screen chemistry ; and I thought it was clever how they 'used the same body language' and talked in the same kind of way , as it made it more believable that they really were the same person. They were both extremely entertaining to watch and I have now become more of a fan of Zac Efron ; I prefered Zac's character in this movie to is HSM one , because it's not 'fake' , his character in 17 Again is so much more realistic and down to earth. I'm looking forward to his future movies!

I would definately recommend this movie ; whether your a fan of Zac Efron or not! I think this movie really shows he can act! This movie is perfect for a night in ; it will certainly give you a few laughs!

Although it wouldn't be a film i'd choose to watch, it sounds like fun, good review :)
