20 Million Miles to Earth
********************
This is a low budget, very low, 60's 'B' movie.
In its day it may have thrilled audiences but even then, I doubt it.
Synopsis:
********
We begin with the crew of Earths first spaceship to Venus returning having taken Venusian samples. But they have problems upon re-entry and crash into the sea just off the coast near a small non descript fishing village.
Only 'Colonel Calder' survives along with some of his samples. One of these 'samples' promptly escapes and begins to grow at a terrifying rate.
Soon the army are brought in and then Rome itself is under threat from this now enormous Venusian behemoth.
Well you can probably guess what happens to the luckless monster.
Apparently when first screened the audience where booing the military and cheering the monster!
How bored they must have been.
Opinion:
******
Cheap tacky spaceship sets and even worse 'special effects' a term I use in its loosest term. Considering the 'Effects' where done by the renowned Harry Hausen they are not up to his usual standards.
He was also responsible for innovative stop-motion techniques shown in such films as Jason and the Argonauts, Sinbad, One Million Years B.C. and many more.
Here however the acting is poor and the dialogue badly written. Some movies, even though very bad, have something about them that despite all the terrible things about them just make you smile. This is not one of those movies.
Avoid at all costs.
Don't even be tempted if you spot it in the bargain bucket, it isn't.
Greg
Summary: Give it a miss.
