... realise your bum went numb a while ago. Long yes - but I honestly didn't realise how long we were in the pictures, nor did my other half. I enjoyed the characters, the good, the bad and the downright ugly. The main characters were good and it was easy to be involved with them and begin to care. I don't want to give the story away in this review, but other than the first say 20-30 minutes where the tale is building and the explanations coming, it sets a good pace and for many parts of it you feel like you are on a roll...more

Crowned Review 2012 (Blu-ray): Four stars for the end of the world (1015 words)

If there was an oscar for best CGI-laden blockbuster, then Roland Emmerich would win it this year (and a few other years) hands down. In 2012, he goes one further than drowning New York in his last blockbuster 'The Day After Tomorrow'. This time, he destroys the planet in a series of jaw dropping tsunami's, volcano eruptions and ground opening earthquakes. Potentially, there is a very frightening premise at play here. The film opens in the year 2009 where a scientist by the name of Dr Helmsley discovers on his travels to India that the core of the earth is about to cause the end of the world. Quick to take his findings to the US government (why not the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 2012: The Age Of Aqueous (924 words)
by - written on 23/11/09 (Very useful, 30 readings)

Roland Emmerich is fast earning the moniker "Master of Disaster". The creator of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow has brought us another apocalyptic tale at least on a par with those two, and certainly a bounce back to form after 10,000 B.C., the forgotten tale lost in the mists of antiquity and not worth remembering. The premise is a simple one: this ball of mud floating through space we call Earth will align with the other planets in our solar system on winter solstice 2012, and the ensuing solar activity will heat up our planet to such an extent that the earth's crust will destabilise, causing cataclysmic changes in the planet's ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 2012 (Blu-ray): Will the world end in 2012? (461 words)

I went to see this film with my mum in the cinema today. We had originally wanted to see the film Paranormal Activity but as we got the times wrong we ended up buying tickets for this. I wasnt that fussed about it but went to see it anyway. If you have never heard of 2012, it is a sci fi disaster action film that is in the cinema at the moment. It was directed by Roland Emmerich and the total running time of the film is 158 minutes (sounds really long but the time flys by when you are watching it!) The film has a brilliant cast. The main actor is the gorgeous John Cusack (ive loved him since i saw him in Serpendipity!) Amanda Peet, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review It's the 70's all over again! (605 words)
by - written on 22/11/09 (Very useful, 55 readings)
Rating:

A review of the film only 2012 is the latest disaster epic to come exploding out of the Hollywood mill. Designed primarily as an excuse to showcase some amazing and jaw-dropping special effects the film is extremely light on dialogue preferring the audience to concentrate on building being destroyed and people being wasted in increasingly humourous ways. The film concerns an ancient Mayan prophecy that basically states that the world will end in 2012. Finding this out, scientists try to come up with a way to save humanity and decide upon building massive underwater boats that only the richest will be allowed to get on. As the world starts to crumble ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 2012 (Blu-ray): Another mediocre disaster film (916 words)

note: also appears on my film review website, TheFilmBlogger.com, thanks! Roland Emmerich is as frustrating a director as you're ever likely to find, best rivalled in this by the insufferable Michael Bay; both directors are capable of crafting an epic scope and visually stunning scenes of carnage, but neither can seem to work with anyone capable of knocking out a solid script. Emmerich's latest disaster film, 2012, with all of its grandeur and odd moments of narrative cohesion, is a reminder that if he hired someone who could actually write, he'd probably have a great film on his hands. 2012 is not a great film, nor is it even a particularly good ...  Read the complete review
