Advantages: Some funny dialogue
Disadvantages: Second half dies down
I had been looking forward to watching this movie for a while and finally got a copy of this to watch and it definitely lived up to my expectations from what I had heard but did not exceed them.
Two cops go undercover at a high school in order to attempt to bring down a drug syndicate. Will they succeed or further enhance their reputation as cops who cannot get the job done.
Jonah Hill - Schmidt
Channing Tatum - Jenko
Brie Larson - Molly Tracey
Dave Franco - Eric Molson
So the cast brings together Hill and Tatum and I'll be honest in saying I wasn't much of a fan of Channing Tatum. He is obviously a good looking guy and an actor that is more for the ladies so maybe this had something to do with it, but I had never really seen him anything as he isn't exactly in the biggest blockbusters. Jonah Hill I have been a fan of since Superbad and he fits in to the Vince Vaughn type of fast talking comedy and he seems to be one of those actors you either love or hate. Also to add that Dave Franco is indeed James Franco's younger brother and they do look very similar but I guess this is expected with siblings.
The movie is a comedy and I found the first half to be much stronger than the second. Especially the initial scenes where Hill Schmidt and Jenko become friends and take down local druggies and this proved hilarious. It also warmed me to Tatum a little as he is quite an amusing guy and both the actors played of each other well. Soon they are sent to a high school as undercover students and I guess they can just about pass as students to those people that need to go to specsavers but I will ignore this point and move on. There is a slight twist where Jonah Hill plays the popular kid and Channing Tatum the smart one which was nice and away from what you would expect when these two actors were cast. Johnny Depp who came in the original also makes a cameo here which is cool but nothing I personally would shout about. I find Depp to have become far too mainstream and people just say he is amazing for the sake of it, but he really hasn't made any great movies in recent years.
Overall it is a comedy that I do recommend and there is a lack of comedies these days. Well comedies that are decent so this made a nice change. I can't say I will look out for any movies with Channing Tatum in them but at least I can say that now I find him indifferent and won't not watch a movie as he is in it.
Summary: A Good Comedy
