Advantages: plenty of things happening
Disadvantages: sometimes realism is a sacrifice the show makes
I didn't start 24 until season 6 was airing, I actually did the unforgiveable and started watching from season 6! Which, despite notoriously being the worst season (in other words not amazing) I really enjoyed.
And so I bought Season 1 on DVD and I could clearly see what the fuss was all about. If you're one of the few that arent familiar with this show allow me to explain: the series features CTU (Counter Terroist Unit) agent Jack Bauer who is the man responsible for the protection of Senator David Palmer, possibly the next president of the United States. From the first episode we are told of an assassination plot against him which starts Jack off on a rollercoaster ride to protect him and, later on, his family, who get dragged into this consipiracy which just seems to get bigger and bigger.
The series also features Kim Bauer played by Elisha Cuthburt, I personally found her inclusion to show to be pretty pointless and intended to boost the aesthetics of the show. Her storyline seems trivial compared to that of her father who goes through great lengths to save her, only for her to end up in trouble again and again!! Most fans identify with this but for the majority this is all forgiven when she slips into a tight top.
But asides from that the show brilliantly uses fast paced action, complex and ever-twisting plots with great characters to provide a hell of a show! It is easy to see how Keither Sutherland won an emmy for his performance and how Jack Bauer has become a cult hero and possibly bigger than the show itself in some respects, but thats not to deny the supporting cast, from the support at CTU to Jacks family to the layers of bad guys that are discovered along the way.
Summary: CTU agent Jack must prevent the assassination of a senator and save his family...in 24 hours
