Advantages: Nice sequel to 28 Days Later
Disadvantages: Felt like only half a film
The sequel to 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later picks up at the point where the rest of the world has decided that the whole of the UK has now been wiped out by the plague and they can start to repopulate it with folk who were out of the country when it struck.
Unusually for a sequel, it doesn't make such use of any characters from the previous film, only using Don (played by Robert Carlyle), a minor character in 28 Days Later who was seen running away from an infected house and leaving his wife to zombies.
His kids were out of the country when the virus hit, and are among the first to be shipped back to the secure area prepared for them. Being kids, they aren't prepared to stay there but sneak out to their old house, and discover that their mother is alive (though a bit nuts) having a natural immunity to the virus.
I don't want to go further than that and give the plot away, but I will say that while this film was 96 minutes long, it still somehow felt like only half a film. The ending didn't bring any real closure to me - when it ended I still wanted to know what happened next.
It's a GOOD half mind, and rumour has it they're now planning 28 Months Later so maybe I'll get my closure there. It's £4.98 on Amazon, and worth picking up if you enjoyed the first film.
(Film only review as I watched it at the cinema)
Summary: Hopefully 28 Months Later will tie this up
