Apart from the obvious Western genre, I was completely unsure of what to expect from this movie. My hopes were high knowing that Russell Crowe and Christian Bale were acting off one another, sounds good on paper right ? Lets see if it works. The background plot of 3:10 To Yuma revolves around Ben Wade (played by Russell Crowe) being held under law authority, and the journey soon follows. Dan Evans (played by Christian Bale) is a father and husband, struggling to keep his family afloat, and with too much pride to face his family's disappointment, he volunteers to help transport criminal Ben Wade to the 3:10 train to Yuma in the town of Contention - for $200. ... Directed by James Mangold, '3:10 To Yuma' is a remake of the classic 1957 western. Starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, the movie tells the story of law-abiding Dan Evans (Bale) who must escort the fabled gunslinger Ben Wade (Crowe) to jail. Although many people have rated this movie poorly, I personally found it extremely watchable and gripping - even though i've never really been a fan of the Western genre. The film balances frequent action sequences with slower paced exploration of character which drew me into the well written plot and kept me on the edge of my seat.
