I'm not much of a traditional horror film fan - I don't like blood and gore as a rule, and it is so easy to make me jump that is just embarrassing to watch a film in the cinema with me unless you want to be showered with popcorn. Having said that, I'm going to contradict myself completely and say that I do like a good, contemporary vampire movie! 30 Days of Night just happens to be a good contemporary vampire movie. The film is set in the small town of Barrow, Alaska. The town is in the far north and for thirty days of the year gets no sun at all. This is really where my one of my very few gripes comes in. In the film it is depicted as one day there is sun and ... Read the complete review

Having probably read a dozen 30 Days Of Night reviews, I'm going to try and persuade you to read another. 30 Days Of Night in my mind stands out above a crowd of other blockbuster Hollywood movies. When it comes to big blockbuster style horror movies, they are usually of abysmal quality with little to offer a serious horror enthusiast 1408 being a recent and incredibly poor offering. While 30 Days Of Night is nothing new borrowing largely from 1973's Messiah Of Evil (aka Dead People) and John Carpenters The Thing, what it does offer is a vicious and at times horrific vision to a mass audience. All autumn we have been lured into the 30 Days Of Night publicity vehicle and ... Read the complete review

So many vampire movies have been made, and all follow the base storyline in some form or another and 30 days of night is no exception to the rule, playing on an temporarily isolated town. However, just because it plays upon the foundations of a vampire movie doesn't mean it isn't worth watching. We see movies now either swinging to either scare you senseless or be completely gorey and bloody. 30 days of Night carefully mixes the two nicely in such a way where you jump and cringe pretty much constantly throughout the movie. After a small introduction to the surroundings and characters it pretty much gets into the core storyline and before you know it ... Read the complete review

I went into this film with absolutely no expectations as I hadn't heard any hype surrounding its release, by the time I picked up the DVD. I thought it sounded like a pretty good premise for a vampire movie. Basically, it is set in a remote Alaskan town that is in complete darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. Every time this happens, the town is attacked by a group of non-english speaking vampires who seem intent on wiping out the entire population. They must be very hungry waiting a whole year for a good hearty snack, and seemed appropriately grumpy! The town's husband-and-wife Sheriff team are forced into battle against them anyway, ... Sheriff Eben Oleson and some of the inhabitants of an isolated Alaskan town are preparing for the thirty days of night that comes around each year. His estranged wife, Stella, is preparing to leave the town for the period without sunlight, and others have the same idea. Then Stella is prevented from leaving after a car crash...and soon begins to wish she wasn't still there when strange things begin to happen. It is soon clear that the town is overrun by vampires, who are killing inhabitants faster than they can be rescued. Along with a few survivors, Eben and Stella prepare to hide themselves away until the next sunrise. But will they be able to stay alive without being ... Read the complete review
