50 First Dates (DVD)
Advantages: Great cast, good chemistry
Adam Sandler plays Henry Roth, a Marine Biologist living in Hawaii. He is a heartbreaker who loves women and leaves them, he has a dream of sailing his boat to Alaska to study the underwater live of Walruses.
One day Henry bumps into Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore) a charming young woman who Henry falls for, the only problem is that following a car accident she has short term memory loss meaning she lives the day and then forgets everything, this means that whenever Henry makes a connection with Lucy she has forgotten by the next day, her father and brother repeat the same things every day to ensure she isn't traumatised by her condition.
Henry is stuck with the difficult problem that he can make the woman he loves like him each day and just as he does and she falls for him, he has to get her to fall in love with him again the next day.
Henry tries lots of different ways to make Lucy fall for him, and although he knows she will forget by the end of the day he feels her love is worth a single day, this is why the film is called 50 first dates.

For me this is Sandlers best film, he isn't annoying and the film has a real heart to it, which is charming and quirky, Drew Barrymore is infectiously likeable and you can understand why Sandler would fall for her so easily. She plays this kind of role brilliantly and definitely brings out a more charming, less gurning idiot side of Sandler which is refreshing.
With stunning scenery in Hawaii and good support from the case which includes Rob Schneider playing a lothario local, the film looks good and has a nice underlying message, which is very appropriate today.
This is a lovely film and an underrated love story, it has sentiment and heart and really makes me appreciate my own love so much, would you rather have a single day with somebody you love than a lifetime without? I know which i'd prefer.
The DVD is available from Amazon for £3.38 and includes deleted scenes and extras.
