Advantages: Smart, funny and well acted with a quirky story telling method that adds depth to the tale.

Disadvantages: Very much told from the man's point of view. You may feel that Summer is made out to be a villain

I bought this, a week ago, mainly because it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt who is fast becoming one of my favourite actors.

The premise whilst fairly simple is one that is also seen fairly rarely. Boy meets Girl, boy falls in love with girl, and girl just doesn't. This film is shown through a series of time jumps, the first scene shows the main character romantic believer in true love Tom, as played by Joesph Gordon-Levitt, just after his girlfriend broke up with him. You are then taken backward in time to the first day they met, jumping forward and back through their story.

It's smart and funny and very well acted. This also has the added bonus of appealing to the romantic comedy fan and the more (shall we say) cynical movie goers alike. There are multiple jumps backwards and forwards throughout the movie which may occasionally make the story seem fragmented in places. However this is actually part of beauty of this movie as the sharp contrasts and recurring themes in different parts of the story give a cohesion to the story. The story is told exclusively from Tom's point of view which does mean that Summer is perhaps a little villanised, but this perspective shifts over the course of the movie as Tom's own perspective changes and matures.

Summary: A break up movie told differently. Funny and engaging with great acting and a quirky sense of humour
