8 MILE Running Time: 115 minutes Certificate: 15 I like a fair bit of Eminem's music so when this film came out I was interested, but happy enough to wait until it came out on DVD. I picked it up from eBay at the bargain price of £3.00 inc. postage. Must say I was very impressed how well Eminem performed because singers/wrestlers and the like don't always transfer well into the world of film. What it's about... 8 Mile is a semi-autobiographical film based on Marshall Mathers life before he became the famous rapper we know today, basically a gripping gritty tale of a poor-white-trash boy who wants to make it big. ... This 2002 film, 8 Mile, had a lot of hype surrounding it before its release. Many were critical in advance of Eminem's acting ability, and questioning whether the film was semi-autobiograohical or not. What emerged was this moving tale of music. The Plot Rabbit lives in a trailer with his mum and kid sister. His mum has problems with alcohol and is good for nothing, so Rabbit finds himself taking responsibility beyind his years. He works by day in a car factory and spends his nights on the rap scene, taking part in contests and hanging with his crew. A rival crew come on the scene and start making trouble, and Rabbit finds himself in the middle of ... Read the complete review

>>>8 Mile<<< >>> Movie <<< Life has not been kind to Jimmy 'B-Rabbit' Smith (Eminem). His pregnant girlfriend broke up with him and he gave her his car, although he finds out that she was just pretending. He has a dead end job in a car manufacturing plant and because he is homeless he has to move in with his mum and baby sister in a trailer park. But B-Rabbit has a dream, he wants to be a rapper and we see him at the beginning of the film preparing for his "battle" in the grimy toilets of a dilapidated night club called The Shelter, he is nervous and actually vomits in the toilets before making his ... If hearing Eminem's voice on numerous radio stations and music television channels wasn't enough, director Curtis Hanson decided to create the rags-to-riches Hip-Hop musical 8 Mile to exhaust all mainstream possibilities and tell the world how great the white rapper is. I don't really hate Eminem: Admittedly, I did enjoy some of the tracks on The Marshall Mathers LP (which I regard as the height of his career as a music artist). It's just that anything he has done since then seems like an excuse to make Hip-Hop more acceptable to a commercial audience. Gone are the days of him wanting to "Kill You": He now prefers to dress up as a superhero for the ... Read the complete review

Made in 2002 but set in 1995, 8 Mile follows the life of Rabbit (Eminem) while he goes through his tough (and somewhat fictionalised) life in a trailer park, competing in rap battles around one of the roughest cities in the world; Detroit. Rabbit, has had a very troubled upbringing, from his alcoholic and drug addicted Mother (Kim Basinger) and her extremely rocky relationship with a man who Rabbit went to school with, Rabbit doesn't really get on with his Mum at all. He also has to deal with his stage fright, he's a budding rapper and his closest friends can all see that he has phenomenal potential, yet when Rabbit hits the stage he chokes and gets booed off ...
