Notting Hill (DVD) ... A proper Romantic Comedy Introduction Ok, I admit it... I like this film!! In fact I like it an awful lot. Its gentle yet funny and dare I say it everyman would like a girl to say " I am just a girl standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her" Its predictable but what do you expect with a Richard Curtis film. I wont go into to much detail in my review as that would only spoil it for those who have not yet seen the film. Love Actually (DVD) ... being a twenty year old girl, and so belonging very much to the stereotypical target audience , a romcom is not what I was describe as my first choice of film. Similarly, the number of absolutely terrible trite Christmas films I ve endured over the years mean that I often approach these with suspicion. So every time I watch Love Actually I m taken by surprise by how good an experience it inevitably turns out to be. Background Released in 2003, Love Actually is directed by Richard Curtis and so bears many of the hallmarks in dialogue and plot of Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Slumdog Millionaire (DVD) ... the time I actual got around to see this film, the Oscar wins were in and everyone and their mother have been touting this movie. Even with all the hype, I can honestly say it lives up to it, all of it. Not to say this film goes on the top 10 all-time list, but close and absolutely the best movie of the year. I ll get to the content in a minute, but I need to give proper praise to the cinematography, which was very well complimented by a great soundtrack/score. There are many powerful shots that wash over the audience and fill the viewer with both joy and then sadness throughout the entire film.
