Brokeback Mountain (DVD) ... also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Brokeback Mountain recieved huge acclaim in 2005 for its depiction of homosexuality in "mainstream" cinema, although given how tolerant and open-minded we are these days, I still fail to see why it was such a big deal that the film got a prominent release. Yes, when Midnight Cowboy was released back in 1968, it was breaking new ground, but by 2005, aren t we fine with this now? Although beaten by Crash at the 2006 Oscars (something I maintain was the right choice), Brokeback Mountain is a stellar and emotionally resonant film. The film is set in the 1960s, and revolves around ranch hand Ennis del Mar ... Read the full review: Haunting and beautiful by shaneo632 |

The Jacket (DVD) ... also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room The Jacket is a very strange psycho thriller that is very loosely based on the Jack London novel, The Star Rover, but largely goes its own direction as a downright weird film that nevertheless has some mystical delights. However, soon enough he is accused of murdering a police officer, though is sent to a mental institution on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Starks is then at the whim of the ... The cabin fever makes the men party their lives away while waiting for the killing to happen, waiting on tenterhooks to kill someone while it never happens. Instead, they spend most of their time sitting around and cleaning out the toilets for their superiors. The film revolves around Anthony Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal), a wet around the ears marine who just ... Read the full review: A clever meditation... by shaneo632 |
