Dances With Wolves (DVD) ... film is one which hubby really wanted to see but it had never really appealed to me but once I found out it was Kevin Costner who played the lead I was swayed slightly so decided to treat him to the DVD. John Dunbar is serving in the US Army and it is the 1860 s. He gets badly injured and is told he will loose his foot. As a last resort he manages to get away from the hospital an makes his way to a post where the high ranking officers are and after he shows bravery and courage, he really just wanted to be killed, he is treated by their doctors and his foot and leg are saved. Blazing Saddles (DVD) ... Saddles is a film based on the old Western cowboys, well when I say based on I mean taking the mickey out of the old Western cowboys. The film is set in the town of rock ridge, a traditional old western cowboy town with the usual drunks and the usual shoot outs we have all heard so much about. The town is in trouble, a rail road track is due to be built straight through the centre of their town. Before I go any further I must say that this is a very racist film. Anyway, they decide that the need a new town sheriff. They are issued a new sheriff and they aren t too happy about it, because he is black. Destry Rides Again (DVD) ... is one of the legendary great westerns from back in the day. James Stewart plays a peace loving Sheriff brought in to clean up the town and action ensues. I havent actually seen it for about 20 or 30 years so my memory of it is a little blurred. However I picked up a copy at HMV yesterday, for a fiver, and watched it last night. How does it stack up? On the whole pretty well. The movie was produced in 1939 and Stewart had already perfected the gawky charmer persona that served him so well throughout his career.
