" A Christmas Carol" is a 2009 film adaptation of Charles Dickens classic story of the same name, written and directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring amongst others Jim Carrey. The Plot: In Victorian England its christmas eve and Ebeneezer Scrooge ( Jim Carrey ) holds everything that emodies the spirit of christmas in contempt, such as forcing his underpaid employee Bob Cratchit ( Gary Oldman ) to beg for the day off to spend with his family, and refusing to accept the invite of his nephew Fred ( Colin Firth ) to spend christmas with his family. That same night Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former business associate ... Read the complete review

I've just been to see this and I have to say, I was very impressed. This story has been done so many times before that this particular version needed something really groundbreaking to make it stand out from the rest, and I think, for the most part, it succeeded. I'm guessing most people already know the plot of A Christmas Carol, so I'll just give a brief re-cap: originally written by Charles Dickens and set in Victorian London, on Christmas Eve, the story follows a man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is a ' tight-fisted hand at the grindstone,' in the words of the narrator. He is visited one evening by the ghost of his ex business-partner, Jacob Marley, and is ... Read the complete review

Is this a new Christmas trend, the misguidingly-marketed family movie? In fairness, this isn't going to traumatise the kids quite as deeply as Slumdog Millionaire did, but does capture the inherent darkness of Dickens' story, and there's rather less offbeat humour than your average Jim Carrey vehicle. Of course, this blacker mood is no negative - and I'm sure most nine year-olds have seen gaping graves and dislocated jaws on TV now (or possibly in person, depending on where they live), but I wouldn't go expecting a wholly all-ages-friendly family film. Each reworking of A Christmas Carol has put its own spin on the story; from the lighter tone of Scrooged to ... Read the complete review

As soon as I saw this film advertised early in the year, I knew I had to take my daughter to see it. However I have been hanging on since it's early November release, simply because November is just far too early for Christmas movies! Feeling sufficiently festive yesterday, we set off. A Christmas Carol is the latest in a long line of adaptations of Charles Dickens famous book of the same name. Briefly, because I'm imagining most people already know the story, cruel miser Ebenezer Scrooge hates Christmas. One fateful Christmas Eve though he is first visited by his late business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him how his wicked and miserly ways will affect ... Read the complete review

I'm not one to turn away a free cinema ticket, and when I was presented with the chance to go and see 'A Christmas Carol 3D', I didn't hesitate to say yes. It wasn't the fact that it was A Christmas Carol that made me so excited, but the fact that it was in 3D. I'd only ever seen one 3D film before, which I had loved, but that was on a DVD. I imagined the 3D experience in a cinema would be twice as exciting if not more. But was the film itself going to be any good? I had only ever seen Mickey's A Christmas Carol, but when you are viewing this little Christmas cartoon about a mouse, it's hard to take it seriously. So I was indeed looking forward to seeing how ... Read the complete review
