A Cinderella Story is, as the title suggests, based on the classic Cinderella. I first saw this on tv and went straight out to buy the DVD.
I bought this for £3 from Woolworths but sadly it's no longer here. You can still buy it around this price at HMV though. Even if it was £10, it is definitely worth your money.
The story is about a teenager Sam (Hilary Duff). She lost her father in an earthquake as a child and has since been cared for by her stepmother (and yes, she's evil). She doesn't actually care for Sam, it's the other way around. Whenever her stepmother wants something she obeys.
Her dream is to go to Princeton uni but her stepmother and stepsisters take this opportunity to completely ruin her plan.
Sam finds a nice boy online which she always talks to to get away from her life and at the dance he invites her as his date. The only problem is it is a masked dance. She still doesn't know who he is.
Prince Charming is determined to find his princess but will he?
My favorite part of the film is when a quote is revealed from her father's old diner. "Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game." I think this is a lovely and inspiring quote and I know it off by heart.
This is a great film with a fairytale ending which I love. It has brilliant actors and actresses like Hilary Duff, who was one of my fave actresses and Chad Michael Murray who is a perfect Prince Charming.
This film is a very well made modern Cinderella story with technology being a big part of it. Although this is years old it is still very much like teenagers now with social media and mobiles being used regular. As with most teen films there are different cliques in the school which influences the outcome. I enjoy watching the cliques as they always make them to be really mean or really geeky and some of these are the best scenes, in my opinion.
The DVD has many bonus features like a commentry by Hilary Duff, deleted scenes, the making of a Cinderella story and a find your Prince Charming game. I enjoyed watching these bonus features as it was great to know more about the excellent film.
I have certainly got my moneys worth, having watched it over and over (too many to count!)
This is one of my favourite films. It is 'A Cinderella Stpry' which came out back in 2004 starring Hillary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. I first saw this film on Sky Movies and I loved it, I bought it straight away and watched it many times. I absolutely love this film. This movie is a Romantic Comedy.
This film is about a girl called Sam (Hillary Duff) who Dad die's in an earth quake and she has to live with her evil step mum and step sisters. She meets a boy (Chad Michael Murray) on a chat sight not realised he is the most popular guy in their school. They decide to finally meet up, she knows who he is, but he doesnt realise who she is at its a fancy dress party and she is wearing a mask. He's on a quest to find out who she is, eventually she is revealed by Austin's (Murray) ex girlfriend Shelby. How will things turn out?
Hillary Duff looks amazing in this film, so beautiful. There are a few known actors and actresses in this film. Firstly Hillary Duff. Chad Michael Murray. Jennifer Coolidge (who plays evil step mother Fiona). Dan Byrd (who plays Carter. Sam's best friend). These are all great actors and actresses. They act really great and stick to character at all times. This film is really enjoyable. I makes me cry at times. This film is exciting and is not boring at all. Your just dying for Austin to find out who she is. So gripping.
My favourite bit is the end, when they're kissing in the rain. "because waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought. Useless and disappointing". And then he finally goes up to her, and its raining!
I've seen this film many times and definitely will be watching many more times. I would recommend this to anyone who loves Rom Coms like me. This film is super cheap if you buy it used. Go on and watch it and love it! MUST SEE!
Since Lizzie McGuire, Hilary Duff has starred in several movies including this one. Rather liking her on Lizzie McGuire, I checked this out and found this not to be a total disappointment!
~~~DVD BOX COVER DESIGN~~~
The DVD cover is rather plain and features Hilary Duff being carried by Chad Michael Murray... from the box we can already tell it is a rom com and they will definitely get together in the end... but I guess the surprise is how?
~~~THOUGHTS ON PLOT~~~
Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) slaves away at her father's old diner, working for her evil stepmother Fiona (Jennifer Coolige) and overshadowed by her evil step sisters. Upon seeking out her prince charming over the internet and subsequently finds out he is Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray), she faces a dilemma of whether to reveal herself and her problems with her family.
I thought the feel of the film overall very much felt like Legally Blonde, maybe due to the casting of Jennifer Coolige and Regina King (both were in Legally Blonde), but the humour also felt quite similar.
The subtleties in the film such as the colour coded clothes of her step sisters, as well as their tall vs short, thin vs chubby appearance are funny. Despite some rather corny lines, the film worked overall to be a sweet rom-com, taking on themes from the classic fairy tale and giving it a modern twist.
Hilary Duff- Sam Montgomery
Chad Michael Murray- Austin Ames
Jennifer Coolige - Fiona
Hilary Duff plays a very Lizzie McGuire self and pulls off the role, being less clumsy and more real and genuine in this. It is one of her best roles to date.
Chad Michael Murray plays the typical guy and keeps his "One Tree Hill" look and his character is pretty much the same, resembling his role in the hit US show, which doesn't give him room to shine and be different and memorable.
The one person that shines is Jennifer Coolige, who plays a role similar to the one she had in "Legally Blonde". The rather sharp blunt lines she has is comedy gold and these roles are perfect for her. No other person would've pulled it off as she did!
Also Stars Regina King (Legally Blonde 2), Madeline Zima (Heroes) and Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory).
The DVD can be purchased for under £3 on most internet sites such as Amazon.
The film was enjoyable and sweet overall, using the classic fairytale as a base for this modern rom-com. The cast was acceptable, with Jennifer Coolige shining over both Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. In the end, the subtleties and humour worked, delivering a light hearted comedy for all.
Yet another easy sunday afternoon film to watch.
A Cinderella Story is yet another modern take on the classical story. Released in 2004 and set in a high school in America is based on a teen romance. It stars Hilary Duff as the Cinderella character Sam and the gorgeous Chad Michael Murray (from One Tree Hill fame) as the 'prince'.
When Sam's father passes away everything is left to her step mum including house, cars and his diner. Sam then has to work for her and her two step-sisters who make her life hell. While they are all getting nice things and pruning themselves Sam is forced to work in the diner and to cook and clean at home as well as do her step-sisters homework for them.
All her life Sam has wanted to go to Princeton University and as she is a straight A student and studies really hard she has every hope of getting in there. On chatting on the Princeton chat room she gets chatting to 'Nomad' aka Austin Ames, who is also hoping to go to Princeton and she finds out goes to the same high school as her. After chatting for a while Nomad asks her if she would like to go to the masquerade ball but she is asked to work at the diner. Her work colleagues decide to give her a makeover and allow her to go to the ball to meet her prince.
After having such a great time her alarm goes off to say she needs to get back so no one knows she was missing and as she rushes to leave, she drops her mobile phone which Austin picks up.
Now that Sam realises who Nomad is, as he is the most popular guy in school, she knows that there is no future for them as they are worlds apart and so she decides to keep her identity a secret. When she turns up at school she sees posters everywhere asking who Cinderella is as Austin is determined to find out who the mystery girl is.
Sam is still determined not to let on but soon her stepsisters read her emails and find out that it's her and then are determined to make a laughing stock of her.
Although this is your typical American high school film with the snobby, little rich girls/popular guys against the geeks and nerds I still found this film enjoyable. The step mum and sisters do a great job of being awful and when they get their comeuppance it feels good. Duff is great as usual and Murray, well he wouldn't have to do anything but stand there and I would be drooling. The casting on both parts was good, as they were a perfect match. Duff starts out as a geeky tomboy and comes out a flower and Murray is the cool guy but with a conscience and does this with ease.
Yes this film has been done many times before and will be done many times more but you can't help loving the underdog getting one over on the nasty school cheerleader cows. It has also been done before where the popular guy is only popular because of what his dad did before him and so is following his dads dream and not his own. This was also done well so not only was Sam not trying to be something she wasn't, we see Austin wanting to be himself and not something he has been created to be due to peer pressure.
Overall this is a cheesy film and is not claiming to be anything else but my daughter and I enjoyed it. It did help having Chad as the main character of course ;o)
A Cinderella Story is a romantic comedy staring Hilay Duff and 'One Tree Hill's' heart throb, Chad Micheal Murray. This film is simply a modern take on teh classic fairytale 'Cinderella'.
Sam Montgomery was a normal, happy child who unfortunatly lost her mum at a very young age and so grew up with her father who she adored, although he married again to an evil woman with two other childern. This hapy life came to a sudden end though when an earthquake stuck and killed her dad Sam was left in the hands of her step mother who treated her like a slave to her. Sam had a cyber relationship with a boy she thought she didn't know, although ended up being the football captian, very popular, Austin Ames. They decide to meet up at the Hallow'een dance although this gets cut short as Sam has to be back to work at 11, whilst leaving she leave her cell phone behind. Austin keeps her phone and tries to find who she is, but Sam is worried that if he finds out then he wil no longer want anything to do with her.
This heat-warming chick-flick will have you laughing and crying at the same time and is a true feel-good movie.
A Cinderella story is a romantic comedy that was released in 2004 with a run time of 95 minutes. It is a modern take on the classic Cinderella story with a mobile phone instead of a glass slipper.
Sam's (Hilary Duff) best friend was her father until an earthquake tears her life apart. Her father didn't leave a will so everything was left to Sam's step mother, including the diner. When Sam got a new step mother, she also got two step sisters, Brianna and Gabriella. Sam's dad dies when she was quite young, and 8 years later, Fiona (the step mother) and the step sisters are ruining her life.
Ever since Sam was a child, she's wanted to go to Princeton because of the stories her dad used to tell her. She's a straight A student so she has her hopes set on getting into this college. Sam confides in her best friend Carter that she's recently been talking to a guy on the Princeton chat rooms, who calls himself Nomad, who also goes to her high school, but has never met.
Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray) is one of the most popular guys in school and quarterback of the football team. He's also dating Shelby, the most popular girl in school who happens to hate Sam. He dreams of going to Princeton although that is against his dad's dreams for him. As you can guess by now, he's the guy Sam talks to online and texts all of the time.
One night while they are chatting online, Austin asks Sam to meet him at the masquerade ball but Fiona wants Sam to work all night instead. Sam's friends at the diner help her out and give her one hell of a make over to make sure she has a good time for once. At the ball Sam and Austin finally meet but Sam never lets on who she is after she finds out who the real 'Nomad' is. She realises that they are totally different people, from totally different places and it would never really work out between them. Sam's alarm goes off 15 minutes before she has to be back, so no one finds out she went to the dance, but as she runs off, she drops her phone. Austin picks it up, determined to find out who his Cinderella is.
Sometimes these modern day versions of classic stories are really bad and I end up hating them, but there's something about this one that I cant help but like. I only really watched this because Chad Michael Murray is in it and I love him in One Tree Hill. He played a fantastic prince in this film and I really think he was the right choice. He plays the nice guy really well and shows his feelings of being torn between his friends and what he really feels amazingly. I think if I ever saw him play a bad guy, I would be shocked.
Hilary Duff was also a good choice for Cinderella. I don't really like films where the main girl starts off really ugly and gets a complete make over and this one wasn't anything like that. Sam is a pretty girl to begin with but hides behind her tomboy clothes, her good features just ended up being highlighted a bit more. The only thing that kind of bugged me was the disguise she wore to the dance. The only thing hiding her appearance was a small mask that covered her eyes, anyone would have been able to tell it was her. She didn't look much different, with the exception of a bit of make up and her hair curled. What was even more unreal was the fact that Austin didn't recognise her voice when he talks to her in the diner. He's supposed to be really infatuated with her but he cant remember her voice? That just wouldn't happen would it?
This film has a really nice feel to it and made me smile at lots of different moments. Yes, it was pretty cheesy too, but that's what chick flicks are all about. I really liked the modern take on this Cinderella story. One of the aspects that I liked most was the running theme of peer pressure. It was very believable that a popular guy wanted to be someone else, and wanted someone who knew who he really was, not the guy he had to pretend to be around his friends. I guess it's a film that gives a lot of girls hope that anything can happen.
A Cinderella Story is a Romantic Comedy starring Musical Star Hillary Duff (Raise Your Voice) and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill.)
This movie is centered around Sam played by Hillary Duff. Sam lost her father at a young age and has been brought up by her step-mom who doesn't treat her well. She also has to put up with her 2 step-sisters who will do anything to become popular. Instead of being popular at school, Sam chats on the internet to princeton. Whilst neither of them know who they are talking to we as an audience are aware she is having an Internet Relationship with Austin Ames (CMM) who is one of the most popular boys in school. The story centers around the ball where Sam dressed as cinderella promises to reveal herself to CMM but doesn't. what follows is a hunt to find out who cinderella is. Without ruining the end, Sam's step sisters and step mom attempt to ruin her happy ending.
This film I rate as one of my favourite films of it's genre. Film Critics often negatively critise this film as it's predictability is obvious from the outset. Whilst this film is largely predictable, there are also many cliches in the film. The story itself sometimes a little far-fetched especially how Sam's step mother changes the letters sam recieves to say she DID NOT get into princeton. Whilst this film has it's many cinics it is perfect for those looking for a lighthearted film to watch and is perfect for a teenage audience
The acting of the leads in this film is fairly strong. Whilst i think the storyline could be improved you cannot really dislike Sam. This forfills her character brief and therefore Hillary Duff forfills her role as the actress. As Duff endears herself to her audience, Chad Michael Murray also succeeds in playing the role of the popular yet nice boy. He has also played this role in OTH. I feel that the fellow students at the school such as Austin's girlfriend could have a stronger role. However in contrast to this Sam' best friend does have many comic moments that he pulls off. This movie is at times immature, yet aimed at its teenage audience fits the brief perfectly. It is worth watching.
Worth a Watch
Everybody knows the classic story of Cinderella and I'm sure there is nobody out there who doesn't. A Cinderella Story is a modern day version starring Hilary Duff as Sam Montgomery, Chad Michael Murray as Austin Ames and Jennifer Coolidge as the evil step mother Fiona. The story includes the evil step sisters Brianna and Gabriella.
Sam becomes friends with a cyber penpal who wants to attend Princeton like her who turns out to be the most popular guy in school and the quarterback of the football team. As they text each other back and forth, Austin invites Sam to the Halloween Dance so they can meet face to face. At the same time, Fiona forces Sam to work late at the diner that night until midnight. Sam dresses up like Cinderella as not to be recognised and meets Austin in the middle of the dance floor.
Sam has to leave at midnight and her cell phone alarm goes off 15 minutes before midnight, warning her to run back to the diner before she's caught. She leaves Austin before he can figure out who she is. On the way out, Sam accidentally drops her cell phone instead of the famous glass slipper. Austin, who has been following her, picks it up, determined to find out who this Cinderella is.
This is an excellent take on the classic Cinderella story and even includes the Fairy God Mother in Sam's friend Rhonda. It is a great chick flick and I recommend it for a quick watch.
A Cinderella Story is a teen movie full of romance. It stars Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray.
Sam (Hilary Duff) montgomery lived with her widowed dad.He gets remarried when Sam was eight but is killed in an earthquake.
That means Sam is forced to live with her stepmother Fiona who is obsessed with plastic surgery and her two daughters Brianna and Gabriella.
Sam's dad owned a diner but since her step-mother took it over she's changed into a hotspot and forces sam to work there as a diner girl.
Sam is an A straight student so in a way is a considered a geek.At school she gets grief from the popular girls , but unaware to them , Sam has a secret relationship through instant messaging with a secret admirer , Austin(Chad Michael Murray). Although they don't know who each other is , he wants to take Sam to the Princeton.
Austin invites Sam to go to the halloween dance with him even though he has a girlfriend. But their relationship is on the rocks.Austin really wants to know who Sam is and that's why he invites her.
On the night of the dance , Sam's stepmother forces her to work until the diner closer which is typical because Sam wants to go out and they don't close until 12am.
Sam is upset but her friends Carter and Rhonda and the other diner workers help Sam get ready for the dance. She goes as cinderella!
When she gets to the dance she meets Austin in the middle of the dance floor. They dance and play '10 questions' but Sam does not reveal her identity.
They go outside to dance in the gazebo when Sam's phone goes off at 11:45pm which means she has to go home before her step mother finds out that she left the diner early and attended the dance. When running sam drops her cell phone.Austin picks it up.He wants to see Sam again.
When Sam returns to school after the weekend , Austin is doing a search - a search to find his cinderella! Sam is shy that she has revealed herself to Austin.
Sam is upset to discover that her wicked step sisters have found her emails to Austin on her laptop. They end up fighting in the carwash at the garage where Austin works. They have printed the emails out in order to show everyone including Austin and his on-off girlfriend Shelby who is also the head cheerleader at school. The evil stepsisters tell Shelby that Sam stole Austin off her on purpose.Shelby is furious and soo humiliates Sam in front of the whole school , whilst at a soccer match. She reveals to Austin Sam's identity.
In the end Sam has enough of her horrible step family and leaves them - she then goes to live with her best friend , and she continues to dat Austin - out in the open!
A great movie if you enjoyed the cinderella story! It's a good teen romance - good for sleepovers and also included a bit of comedy!
I give this movie a 9/10!
Hope this review helps!
I know what you're thinking and that is that: Why have I watched this film? Well the main reason is because my mom loves chick flick (I don't know why so don't ask), and there's one rule, and that is that we all must watch a DVD together. If one person is in the house but not watching the film, then we can't watch it. The only way you can get out of watching the film is by being outside, but even then you have to be as far away from this house as possible, i.e. Go up town, or to a mate's house. So usually horror films are watched on a Friday night when my dad (luckily) & my brother are out the house.
Anyway as you may already know this film is nowhere near a horror film. It's a chick flick, but I have to say I did like this one. Especially since Hilary Duff is in it, you could say she's one of my favourite Actresses but she's also a good singer.
Anyway here's a bit of information about the people:
Samantha "Sam" Montgomery is played by Hilary Duff. Hilary was first seen in Casper meets Wendy, Hilary played "Wendy the Good Witch". This was the start of her career. She then became famous to everyone in the hit TV Series "Lizzie McGuire" which is still shown on TV. She played the main role: "Lizzie McGuire". She also has a hit singing career where she has released 3 studio albums and she also has a second "Greatest Hits" album on the way out soon.
Austin Ames is played by Chad Michael Murray. Chad has been in a number of Films. He is most recently seen in One Tree Hill, and he has also won an award for being in One Tree Hill. He can also be seen in Freaky Friday as well as House of Wax.
Fiona (Sam's Step-mom) is played by the famous Jennifer Coolidge. She is most famous for being in all 3 American pie's, she played Stifler's mom: Jeanine Stifler, however she has been seen in lots of other films such as Legally Blonde, Zoo Lander, Date Movie and Epic Movie. She played Heidi/Jaclyn in the film IGOR.
The other Actors and Actresses can be seen in a number of different films but they aren't main characters as such.
Sam Montgomery lived a semi-fairytale life with her widowed father when she was 8 years old in a suburb in California. Later, her father opened up a Diner named after him and fell in love with a woman named Fiona which he later married. One day, a falling support beam kills her father in the 1994 Northridge earthquake and leaves her with her plastic-surgery/salmon-obsessed stepmother and her two cruel stepsisters Brianna and Gabriella. Eight years later, Sam is a straight-A student enduring her uncaring stepmother's wrath, who turned her father's cafe into a hot-pink hot spot and forces her to work as a diner girl. In addition to her family, Sam must deal with the popular girls at school, particularly the head cheerleader, Shelby Cummings. Sam confides in her best friend Carter and her cyberspace pen pal, who wants to attend Princeton University with her. What she doesn't know is that her secret admirer turns out to be Austin Ames, the quarterback of the football team and the most popular student at school who is currently dating Shelby.
As they text each other back and forth, Austin invites Sam to the Halloween Dance so they can meet face to face. Austin dumps Shelby a few hours before the dance. At the same time, Fiona forces Sam to work late at the diner that night until midnight. Rhonda, Sam's mentor and friend at the diner, and Carter help Sam get to the dance, masquerading as Cinderella in a mask and Rhonda's wedding dress. She meets Austin in the middle of the dance floor and is at first put off by the fact that her pen pal is Austin Ames himself. He soon wins her over, and they move outside together. As they dance outside in a gazebo, they play '10 Questions' with Sam never revealing her identity. Meanwhile, Carter, disguised as Zorro, saves Shelby from David, one of Austin's friends, from making a move on her.
Right before Austin is about to take off Sam's mask, her cell phone alarm goes off 15 minutes before midnight, warning her to run back to the diner before she's caught. She leaves Austin before he can figure out who she is. Austin and Sam are chosen as the Homecoming Prince and Princess, but apparently Cinderella is playing hard to get. Sam manages to find Carter, and they flee from the dance. On the way out, Sam accidentally drops her cell phone. Austin, who has been following her, picks it up, determined to find out who this Cinderella is.
Then her step-sisters find the e-mails sent to Austin, and they tell Shelby. But what will happen, will Sam ever be with Austin? Will her dad's will be a fake? How can she survive? Will she become humiliated?
This is a brilliant film, Thought it's been like 7 months since I last saw it so I need to watch it again as it was so good! I would say there are no bad points but then again if a boy, who's into action movies, watches this then he might die considering this is a chick flick.
I'll leave it here as I am quite bored reviewing this DVD, which is quite surprising as I usually enjoy reviewing DVDs.
I hope I have helped you in making a choice to get this or not.
A girl and a childhood dream. A Cinderella story is a Disney's teens movie, starred by Hillary Duff who was very popular at that moment. The movie was a bout an orphan girl living with the wicked step mother and two evil dumb step sisters, falling in love with the most popular guy in the school. Just like the fairy tale, the girl could not go to the prom because of the mother told her to work at the diner, but she could manage it to go to the prom and dance with the dream guy.
I think it was quite interesting teen movie, supported by the teen idol at that moment Hillary Duff. Well, I don't think that she acted really good in this movie, neither Chad Michael Murray as the male main character. The story was pretty plain and predictable. I didn't see the Disney magic in this movie which really disappoint me because I am a fan of Disney's movies.
I think the idea is good, the cinderella story, the modern setting, but I don't think the execution is good enough. But I should admit that this movie was quite entertaining.
I think this movie would be more suitable for kids, who was still believe in fairytale, than for teens who would like something with more romance and good actings. It is for general audience, so I think parents don;t have to be worry about this movie. It's Disney's anyway.
This is a modern day Cinderella story ( clue is in the title ) starring Hilary Duff as the main character (Sam Montgomery) and Chad Michael Murray ( resident hottie and all round Prince Charming type character. ) The wicked step-mother is Fiona (played by Jennifer Coolidge ) who plays the modern day step-mother who is more interested in botox and sunbeds, spoiling her children and making Sam's life a misery. The two sisters Brianna and Gabriella ( played by Madeline Zima and Andrea Avery ) play their parts as rather silly and spoilt sisters who also make Sam's life a misery well.
The film begins with Sam as a child when her father is reading her a story from her fairytale book. Here he tells her that any answers that she needs to any problems she should have in life can be found here. Next thing there is an earthquake and her father goes to help his wife ( Sam's step mother ) and Sam's step sisters who are calling for help. Here the viewer is given the impression that this is how Hal ( Sam's father) dies.
The film then fast-forwards to present day and Sam is put to work in the home and Hal's diner ( now owned by Fiona ) which is run in the main by three members of staff who have been there from the beginning with Hal....Rhonda ( who acts as Sam's fairy Godmother type figure ) Eleanor ( played by Mary Pat Gleason ) and Bobby ( played by Paul Rodriguez ) who really run the diner and act as Sam's real family.
We learn that Sam is an A-grade student ( and is hoping to go away to an excellent univeristy ) and meets someone online who also has the same hopes for himself. That someone else online is Austin Aimes unbeknownst to Sam until they agree to meet at the school masquerade ball. He however, since Sam wears a masquerade mask ) is unaware who this person really is.
Eventually Austin finds out and distances himself since Sam is seen as an outcast at school due to his ex-girlfriends dislike of her etc. However, when Sam confronts Austin and is then ridiculed by Austin's ex-girlfriend in front of the while school begins to realise his mistake in distancing himself from her.
During this time Sam ( unbeknownst to her as it was opened by Fiona her step-mother ) that she was accepted to her university of choice. However, Fiona doesn't want to lose her 'housekeeper', 'cook' and diner 'employer' so resends Sam a letter on behalf of the university to say that she has not been accepted. Things go from bad to worse for Sam and in a temper she throws her fairytale book which opens to a page which reveals her father's will. In this will her father leaves Sam EVERYTHING. Fiona's part in destroying the original copy of this will is unveiled and Fiona/her daughters are made to work in the diner to pay back any debt they owe to Sam. Sam sells their cars and makes Rhonda a partner in her diner and when Austin finally sees the error of his ways and they're reunited, they leave in an open top car and drive off to their university......and live happily ever after I'm guessing !!
Great film, more of a girly chick-flick than a "suitable for all the family" type film, although it is.
I am a little older than the ideal target audience that this dvd film is aimed at but I enjoyed watching it with my daughter anyway. It was a little bit juvenile in places of course but then it is supposed to appeal to juveniles!
I thought the lead character Sam played a lovely Cinderella. She was clearly a natural beauty who had grace and intelligence. Her ugly sisters and evil step mother were a really humourous parody that captured the essence of the original characters from the original tale.
This is a modern adaptation though that is set mostly between an American high school and a diner that Sam's Dad owned and ran before he passed away in a tragic accident. Sam is reduced to working all the hours under the sun in the diner while her step Mother and ugly sisters lord it about the town spending her Dad's money.
The ending of the story is of course rather unbelievable but then this is a fairy tale rather than a factual adaptation despite the modern places and faces that feature in this film.
I thought this was an enjoyable teenage film that would be particuarly appreciated by the younger generations. It is fun, easy going and well made.
If you're after a warm-hearted chick flick, and in a feel good romantic mood then you'll enjoy this film. You can get it for £4.98 at Amazon so dont know why the link at the top says £8.97!
Its a modern day version of the fairytale Cinderella really, very predictable as we all know the original version so well, however it has been integrated into the modern world well. Sam's dad died when she was a young girl and so since has been enslaved by her botox-junky step mum. She is forced to work al hours in her dad's old diner therefore giving kids at school a reason in itself to mock her, as she becomes known as 'diner girl'. She gets into a text message romance with someone from school but doesn't have a clue who it is. She goes disguised to the Halloween dance in hope to find out who her 'prince' really is, only to find out it's the cool kid from school. - Austin Ames. She can't get rid of what has become her 'diner girl' complex and he has his reputation to think of alongside pressures from home.
Chad Michael Murray is a reason in itself to Watch this film!
However Hilary duff plays her part well too and is very pretty!
Other cast members who put on a good performance include - Jennifer Coolidge, Regina King.
A classic Cinderella tale.
This film is a modern-day american adaptation of the classic fairy tale.
Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) is in the care of her cruel step-mother Fiona and demanding step-sisters Gabriella and Brianna. Her father died when she was young which left her to grow up without her best friend leaving her with no confidence.
She works in her father's diner and often sees the popular crowd from school.
She gains happiness in the form of a cyber-relationship with her unknown Prince Charming, who is really Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray). He is the school's most popular and good-looking jock who underneath his image, is sensitive and loving.
Sam finally meets him at the ball.....which is their school prom. She is dressed in a wedding dress and has a mask to hide her identity and really looks the part of the Cinderella.
The film is a comedy and has funny moments. It is the perfect present for a teenage girl but i don't think older people or men would really enjoy it.
Overall though, a great film.
