The simple premise revolves around Sean Vetter (Vin Diesel) and Demetrius Hicks (Larenz Tate), two former gang members who have since cleaned up their act and become DEA Agents for the US. Crowned Review A Man Apart (DVD): A Man Apart...from his TV and the football game of the year. (803 words)
by - written on 25/06/03 (Very useful, 95 readings)
Rating:

Everyone has a past, and A Man Apart is Vin Diesel's. Before he was shot up the spout into Hollywood's stratosphere on the back of such projects as The Fast and the Furious and XXX, the bald and muscular one made this lone-cop-versus-the-drug-world film with wonderboy director F. Gary Gray. While not in the class of his later work, A Man Apart does showcase an interesting dark side to Diesel along with plenty of explosive thrills and spills. Preview screenings: a theatre stuffed to the gills full of fidgeting gits with popcorn-greasy fists full of free tickets 'won' by listening far too long and hard to the so-called hippest, hottest, most ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A Film Apart (1115 words)
by - written on 14/10/04 (Very useful, 193 readings)
Rating:

Prior to its release there was a big marketing campaign to promote the release of this film. The trailer was being shown in cinemas a long time before its release and by the time the film was due out I had decided that I must see this film. Going from the trailers the film looked to have a good storyline and good action scenes. Perfect for a non-taxing night in the cinema. ** Story Line ** Sean Vetter (Vin Diesel) is DEA and has grown up with the drug world before becoming a cop. He knows how things work and he has a lot of contacts and friends on the street. When Vetter arrests a major drug lord, Lucero (Geno Silva), he makes himself a treat to the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A Man Apart (DVD): "When they took his love, they took his life" (345 words)
by - written on 23/09/08 (Very useful, 32 readings)
Rating:

Never before, I had seen Vin Diesel so angry, and 'pissed-off'. I told my friends after watching this film just that. The point of the fact is that, in the same situation I would have done the same thing; it's nothing like killing a man with bare hands and feet. It's not about killing them quick with a bullet or a knife, it's not about clean or dirty, it's simply just complete enrage and infliction of maximum pain, without thoughts or ideas. Vin Diesel did this marvellously. I do not want to give too much away, but basically the film opens with a loving, close relationship between Vin and his girlfriend, played by the beautiful Jacqueline Obradors. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Daft but mildly amusing actioner (288 words)
by - written on 09/12/09 (Very useful, 2 readings)
Rating:

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Vin Diesel became a household name after The Fast and the Furious hit big at the box office; cue him starring in a number of action films, such as the pretty decent Pitch Black, and the not so sturdy A Man Apart, a film that takes Diesel's raw aggression and...tones it down to the point where he actually plays a cop of all people. Unconvincing though that might be, A Man Apart has enough action to just abou make it tolerable enough, even if the plot is a total mess. Premium Review A Man Apart (DVD): A man apart a good watch (154 words)
by - written on 23/01/09 (Useful, 18 readings)
Rating:

A Man Apart portrays the ultimate man on a mission for justice. Vin Diesel plays a DEA agent who sets out to avenge heartbreaking and vicious murder of his wife after his home unexpectedly attacked during a night in. The film is based on the mass drug gangs that are known to operate between the mexican and american border. By stopping these Vin Diesel knows he could find the culprit who brutally murdered his innocent wife. I felt the film was very good and Vin Diesel yet again played a great role. Some truely brilliant action scenes with plenty of gun fire and brutal coming togethers between the law and the criminals. Vin Diesel is portrayed as the man who has ...  Read the complete review
