Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man and go to Mars.
===============================================
A single DVD containing 2 films.
The Boys:
=======
Bud Abbott was born in1895 in New Jersey, USA. Surprisingly Lou Costello was born 1906 also in New Jersey, USA. They had both toured in 'Burlesque' but had only limited success until teaming up in 1936. But it wasn't until 1940 until they where signed by 'Universal' and went on to make their first movie 'Night in the Tropics'. By 1950 there Star was starting to fade.
Also, not all was well between the boys, as at times throughout their career together, Bud had a 60/40 split on their earnings and this had always irked Lou. Later it would surface and eventually along with the drinking and gambling AND being chased by huge Tax bills, they eventually split in 1957.
Sadly Lou Costello died 2 years later in 1959. Bud Abbott however lived until 1974!
Their work will remain timeless as is the way with innocent and genuinely funny comedy.
Invisible Man:
============
Bud and Lou are newly qualified private eyes and even before they get their first case the door to their office bursts open and in comes Boxer, Tommy Nelson. Tommy has been accused of killing his manager but the boys instantly take a liking to him and promise to help him.
They take him to his girlfriends house but of course the police are not far behind. However the boys have come across an invisibility potion and the boxer snatches it up quick and injects himself just as the cops burst in the front door.
What follows is pure Abbott and Costello.
Lou ends up being a fighter (Lou the Looper) with, of course, the invisible boxers help. They eventually uncover the real murder, though you can see who it is right from the beginning.
Lots of running gags and slapstick made zanier with the aid of an invisible man. Hilarious and madcap right from the start until the barmy ending. The invisible squirrel is especially funny.
Sound quality is good to very good.
Picture quality is along the same lines, not really DVD but non the less highly watchable.
DVD Extras, non to speak of apart from the usual sound options.
Runtime 78 minutes
Go to Mars:
==========
The boys are maintenance men at NASA, as if !!! And one day bud accidentally presses a button which sends a space rocket to the New Orleans Mardi Gras instead of Mars.
MAR di Gra S = Mars Bud never could spell.
When the boys emerge they think they are on Mars because of all the weird Mardi Gras costumes. Just then they get hijacked by two escaping bank robbers who make Bud and Lou blast them up and away from New Orleans, a long way, all the way to Venus.
Once there they discover that Venus is entirely populated by women. ENTIRELY!!! The women are of course all stunningly beautiful and quite taken by the boys because there have been no men on Venus for thousands of years, don't ask, it never is explained.
The queen is especially taken with Bud. Things of course take a turn for the worse, after all the boys have found paradise and that cant be allowed in a comedy film.
The ending is a bit flat and a bit silly but by now their films where getting a bit thin on gags and money. The props are not too bad (for a 'b' movie) but all in all it is really not that bad.
This film has a daft plot but it is pure Abbott and Costello and worth a look, I think you will enjoy it.
Oh one more thing, despite the title of the film Abbott and Costello never go to Mars, they go to Venus?
Sound quality is good to very good.
Picture quality is along the same lines, not really DVD but non the less highly watchable.
DVD Extras, non to speak of apart from the usual sound options.
Run Time: 73 minutes
Greg.
Summary: The boys are still funny even today
