About a Boy (2002) is a British film directed by Chris and Paul Weitz. It stars Hugh Grant, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Weisz and Toni Collette, and tells the story of 12 year old Marcus and his unusual friendship with Will, played by Hugh Grant.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Nick Hornby, and while the plot of the film deviates somewhat to that of the book, it is still a hugely enjoyable film! When the film first came out it was nice to see Hugh Grant tackling a slightly different type of role to those that he became well known for in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill. The character of Will, while not an awful person, is not hugely likeable at first, inventing a son for himself in order to meet single mothers.

However, through his relationship with Marcus (played by Nicholas Hoult), it is revealed that Will does have some redeeming characteristics, and the two characters help each other out in their own ways.

It's a very good film with great performances by all the actors.

Summary: Good film!
