About A Boy is the film adaptation of Nick Hornby's book of the same name. The protagonist is a man called Will Freeman (Hugh Grant) who lives a very self-centred life. He doesn't work (which often leads to awkward conversations at parties) but instead lives off the royalties of an incredibly annoying Christmas song that his father wrote. All of this changes however, when Will meets Marcus (Nicholas Hault), a persistent 12 year old boy who seems set on becoming a part of Will's life, whether Will wants him there or not. Throughout the course of the film the two realise that they can actually learn something from each other, which leads to an amusing event at Marcus's school towards the end of the film.

About A Boy isn't especially fast-paced, complicated or confusing. It's not the kind of film that you invite everyone over to watch and then talk about for weeks on end. Instead it's the kind of film that you watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon and can watch over and over again. If you want a film that's going to blow your mind, this isn't it, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth owning a copy.

Summary: A bit like a white cotton Tshirt - it's not going to change the world, but it's still good to own
