Above the Rim is a fantastic film which stars the late great Tupac Shakur, Duane Martin, Robinson, and the extra funny man Marlon Wayans. Directed by Jeff Pollack this is a great film which I can watch over and over again. I remember first watching this film when I was a teenager who was in awe of the greatest rapper ever 2Pac and to this day still believe he showed how great an actor he was in this film. He really shines out and shows his credibility as more than just a street thug. Above the Rim is a film set in the world of basketball- both on the court and on the streets. The film is focused on a high school basketball player, Kyle, who wants to make it to college to play basketball at the next level. He becomes arrogant due to his high levels of skills, which makes him difficult to be coached. The other main characters are 2 brothers; Shep (Leon) who himself was a former high school star who now works at the school and Birdie (Tupac Shakur) a drug dealer who looked after the family after Shep left due to a tragic accident to his friend. First time I watched above the rim I thought it was ok. But when I stared getting into basketball a lot, I watched it again and understood the movie more. The story line to film is a good storyline about a young black man Kyle Watson (Duane Martin) trying to get into Georgetown University. Its one of the most renowned colleges for basketball in America. The film came out the same year Allen Iverson was playing there. But trouble is ahead when Bird (Tupac) gets him to play in a 5-5 on street tournament. But if he does this he would be under birds thumb all through his basketball career if he makes to the pros. If you are remotely interested in basketball you should go and see this! It has Tupac Shakur in it (gangster rapper who was shot dead a couple of years ago) as well as Leon...hmmm, hmmm (need I say more?)! Leon and Tupac are brothers...Tupac is falling into the underground world of gangsters...whilst Leon is very much the good one with a high moral ethic! Leon's best friend died (before the movie begins) due to basketball (sounds unlikely I know...but it makes sense when you see it) so he works as a security guard during basketball games as he has lost his nerve to play the game himself (although naturally he has the talent!).
