Advantages: Some good acting, plot well played out

Disadvantages: Plot could be a bit more complicated

Adulthood is a film that sequels the Noel Clarke directed Kidulthood, I ended up watching them the wrong way round and to some extent this actually improved the plot of this film because I spent much of the beginning working out what sort of connections the characters had to the main character "Sam", for some reason I thought that the first clip in the film was of major significance. Having since seen Kidulthood, it is all rather straight-forward and the plot might have been a little too basic had I seen it in advanced, on the other hand it is intriguing to see the same characters a couple of years later.

Released 2 years after Kidulthood, it's 6 years in the film since the crime Sam committed and he's served his time in prison, coming out and trying to keep on the straight and narrow, unfortunately for him on his first day out, it becomes apparent that there are people out to get him. Sam goes in search of characters from Kidulthood who were caught up in the situation in one way or another and the film uses this fairly simple method as a way of analysing the effects the death of Trevor have had on them.

Some have taken it worse than others, Sam - himself is an almost completely unrecognisable character in Adulthood, no longer is he the arrogant, rude, violent bully but genuinely seems to have turned a fresh page and towards the end of the film you can't help wanting him to do well. There's a pretty fun escape scene, some excellent acting from Noel Clarke and Adam Deacon and a fairly drab love story thrown in which just seems to darken the film perhaps a little unnecessarily.

It's quite a different film to its predecessor, to some extent all of the actors seem a bit depressive and messed up where as in Kidulthood they are more on the chirpy side, despite having obvious issues. It's still a good film though.

Summary: Still an entertaining film
