Advantages: very, very funny film

Disadvantages: doesn't go on long enough

This hilarious spoof of the 'Airport' disaster movies relies on ridiculous sight gags, groan-inducing lines, and brilliant comic acting to make the audience laugh - and it succeeds, time and time again.

This film pulls out all the cliches as alcoholic pilot 'Ted Striker' (Robert Hays), who's developed a fear of flying due to some wartime trauma, boards a jumbo jet to attempt to get his stewardess girlfriend (Julie Hagerty) back.

Food poisoning (from a REALLY dodgy looking fish) hits the passengers and crew, leaving it up to Striker to land the plane, and a deadpan, glue-sniffing air traffic controller (Lloyd Bridges) and Strikers' vengeful former captain (Robert Stack) to talk him down.

Along the way, we meet all the stock disaster movie passengers like the guitar-strumming nun, sick little girl, and frightened old lady, as well as two Afro-American travellers whose 'jive' has to be subtitled. That's just one of the many gags that fill the film.

Leslie Nielsen has some of the movies' best lines as the planes' doctor, launching a new phase of the actors' career that carried him through the next two decades in several similarly comedy roles.

No pun is too silly, no gag is too obvious, and no stunt is too tasteless for this film, as long as someone will laugh at it, and you will - all the way through!

This movie is as funny as it was 20 years ago when I first saw it with my mum (she dragged me!). Every time I watch this movie, I always find another joke in it, it isn't often today that you'll find a comedy that cracks jokes every 30 seconds!

Even after you've seen it numerous times (and I have......a lot), the gags never wear thin. It's irreverant and silly, just how I like 'em!.

Surely, this is a classic...... And stop calling me shirley.

Unfortunately, ever since my first viewing of 'Airplane!', I'v
e developed this drinking problem....... *SPLOOOSH!!!!*
