The year is 2019 AD, the place post World War III Tokyo. The city has been rebuilt out of the ash-covered wasteland of nuclear holocaust. The unemployed masses have taken to the streets in riots, and biker gangs rule the roads bellow the towering skyscrapers.

The year is 2019 AD, the place post World War III Tokyo. The city has been rebuilt out of the ash-covered wasteland of nuclear holocaust. The unemployed masses have taken to the streets in riots, and biker gangs rule the roads bellow the towering skyscrapers.

The surprisingly smooth animation meets a believable interpretation of the not too distant future. The film shows a simple school dropout, and member of a biker gang, realising that he has power beyond his wildest dreams, but can he control it and prevent it from becoming his worst nightmare?

The film was made in 1988, but the quality of the 'manga' animation, and the ideas that the film represents in breathtaking detail still astound viewers today.

The end of the film is hard to follow, unlike the rest of the film, but the viewer still walks away with a sense of satisfaction and inspiration. The film requires full commitment and concentration, but only so the viewer is able to fully apreciate the levels of detail put into the film.

The soundtrack is unusual and comes at unusual times and events in the film, it does inhance the atmosphere but does not deserve a place in your record collection.

With great plot twists and truly believable characters, as well as some light humour, the film is very entertaining and well worth watching.
