An epic tale, shame a tiny man played one of the ancient times greatest warriors Alexander the Great. The film deals with key experiences of Alexander as youth and as a leader and legend that he become after conquest of Persia and strong minded will to get to the end of the Earth. Alexanders conquests took him all the way to India. That is shown in here as well. The story in this film is like a biography told me some say Alexanders half brother Ptolemy I Soter. Alexander is shown as complex character. His father doesn't like him that much.. it was lucky for him the way he became king. Lot is made of his youth, his strange mother, ... Do you ever watch a film and then wonder how the director ever had the guts / nerve / self-belief to release the film and expect people to think it was any good? I do. Frequently. Oliver Stone's biopic, Alexander, is a perfect example of this bewildering determination to produce and release absolute rubbish. Set roughly 300 years before the birth of Christ, Alexander charts the stormy life of Alexander The Great from childhood to adulthood and to eventual demise. If the story of the Macedonian king's life is of interest to you then, surprisingly, Alexander is probably not the film for you. I found it rather confused, messy and laborious to say the least and ... Read the complete review

Oliver Stone's latest release boasts a fantastic cast as he tries to tell the story of one of history's greatest warriors, Alexander. This film focuses on different times in his life, from childhood, through to death, as we follow him in and out of battle as he attempts to unite a world, despite the schemes of others. In the film's closing scene, Anthony Hopkins narrates the events of the past to a listening scribe and suddenly decides not to record some of his opinions, claiming 'its a load of rubbish from an old man'. If they had opened the film with that line, it would have saved me a wasted evening. This director's cut went on and on and on. ... Read the complete review

There was something about Alexander that cried out to me to avoid it. When it arrived in the cinema I thought I don't really want to see it but it might be quite good. Then I started thinking that maybe after Phone Booth Colin Farrell would be picking better roles for himself. I suppose by now I should realise when to listen to that initial voice that tells me it'll be terrible. Time and time again though I ignore it and end up sitting through some pretty terrible films and this certainly ranks up there amongst them. In Oliver Stone's biopic of the great Macedonian king Alexander (Colin Farrell), he attempts to educate the audience of a great ruler. During his ... Read the complete review
