Advantages: Exciting fighting scenes, Excellent music

Disadvantages: I didn't like seeing Will Smith as an aggressive character! He's normally so funnny and sweet....

I was very excited about seeing Ali since I think Will Smith is a fantastic actor and I was interested in the life story of this world-renowned sportsman.

Ali is undeniably a good film, but nothing special. Smith portrays Ali’s arrogant and determined attitude very well – indeed, any disappointment I had was not in the story itself or the actors, but in its production.

The film tells Ali’s personal story over a number of years, yet the film does not make time gaps, of sometimes years, very obvious. Me and my friends only realised that the story had gone forward by 5 or so years because Ali suddenly had a number of small children calling him dad!

If there is something positive to be said about this film, it is its fantastic sound track. Music is used very effectively to portray the mood of nearly every episode, to remind the viewer of the period within which the film is set and makes some of the fighting scenes very exciting!

Overall a good film, but could have been better!

I quite liked the director's (Michael Mann) previous movies, but I've heard such mixed review about this one that I think I'll wait for the video/DVD release. I see you're fairly new to dooyoo - welcome, and have fun!
