Disadvantages: the 'w' word

At the time of its release (1992) this film got a bad rap. The director, David Fincher (who went on to make the excellent SEVEN) was following the work of two standout directors, Ridley Scott and James Cameron. He also had to go against the numerous aliens which had appeared in the second sequel and instead revert to the single monster in the same manner as the first movie. People expected more.

The storyline has Ripley going to a prison in space, having her head shaved, and getting chased by an alien. The inmates use a particularly vulgar British swear word a lot (it begins with 'w') which is a shock at first but ultimately becomes boring.

The film as a whole is interesting and is certainly better than its reputation would have you believe, but still not as good as any of the other movies in the series.
