Aliens back again! (Alien 3 (DVD))

Advantages: Still has the ability to shock

This is the third film in the Alien series of films, and is not one of the best. In my opinion the first two films are by far and away better than this, although this is in turn better than the last film, Alien Reserection.

This film tells of what happens to the survivors of the marine mission sent to an alien infested planet when they crash land on a penal planet inhabited by some of the worst criminals mankind has to deal with. There are rapists, murderers and loads more types of lunatic there, although many of them have found religion and some of them are trustworthy in their own fashion. The little girl, Newt, who was rescued from the aliens died on impact (convenient, considering that the girl who played newt would have aged a great deal in the tme between Aliens being filmed, and work starting on Aliens 3 :-) ). The android Bishop is thrown away as trash (although he is later recovered and re-actived, vor a short time at least), and Ripley finds out that her nightmare has come true. This is one of the biggest shocks in the entire series of films, so I`m not going to give anything away.

Without giving too much away, I think it is obvious to anyone that the aliens will have followed Ripley to the penal colony, and they start to attack the inmates there. Ripley leads a desperate defence while waiting for a rescue mission to arrive, but her job isn`t very easy. The prisoners start to come apart at the seams under the pressure, and worst of all there are no guns on the planet! In the end they come up with a plan to kill the alien, but it involves the inmates offering themselves as human bait to try and lure the alien into their trap.

The trap does succeed and kill the alien, although the film doesn`t have the normal "And the survivers lived happily ever after" style ending. No spoiling the surprise of course, but trust me - it will be a surprise.

If you haven`t already had the chance to see this film then do
it. If you`ve never seen any of the Aliens films then start at the beginning and watch them all - in one sitting if at all possible.
