Advantages: Aliens Predators

Disadvantages: Hollywood

Aliens vs Predators that always sounds like such an awesome combination but unfortunately this film seems to fall flat some from the problems that a lot of cinema does today. If it holds a character, a monster or anything that is revered be it from a past movie or book it gets made to make a quick buck and falls slightly short.

This movie is very similar the first one for anyone who has seen that (which i'd assume most people chasing up the second one would). It basicly follows three stories :

*I apologise in advance for any Spoilers that the below may give out, i have purposely left out anything story breaking but to be fair there really isn't that much story here so it's hard for me to skirt around the edge's without saying there's a pred-alien on the loose and such*

It follows very vaguely the entrepid adventure of the now turned hybrid and very surprisingly named predalien, as it runs it's way through colorado filling all those innocent people's bellies with oh so cute ickle aliens ready to burst their way out, take that first breath and first bite out of anything that might be too close at the time.

You then have the Predator who gets alerted by a distress signal from the ship the hybrid was on, as he flies his way to earth to hunt him down for a trophy or for revenge or for the sport of it, we dont really find out but he comes to earth for one reason and that reason is to pretty much shoot the hell out of anything with his shoulder cannons for the first hour or so of the film. Which in all honesty is pretty cool at times so we can let some of the rest slide slightly.

The third story that is going on starts off quite annoying and is where the film falls down slightly if it was just about aliens and predators as the title suggests it would be hunky dory, but we have the lives of the townspeople where the hybrid is attacking in the background. You guessed it, teen in-fighting, brothers (one of whom just got home from jail), a woman who has just finished service in iraq and many other forgettable faces that tend to last about 30 seconds.

(And for anyone who is a side Stargate Atlantis fan there is a small cameo by Rainbow Sun Francks who plays Lt. Ford in the first couple series)

Overall it's an okay film but with a very B movie feel to it, the action is generally always dark and very fast leaving it quite hard to follow at times. For anyone looking to veg out and enjoy a horror/action film with very little story littered with action scenes without having to think about anythign too much then you probably would enjoy this.

I will say it again though, i wouldn't go into this film expecting anything spectacular and definitely *definitely* do not open your brain while watching this or the plot holes just float straight to the top.

Summary: A dark action film made for the masses, it has it's merits but they are few and far between
