PLOT/SUMMARY:

Eve Harrington stands outside the theater every night, hoping to catch a glimpse of her idol, stage actress Margo Channing. Margo is everything Eve wants to be: successful, beautiful, witty and famous. One evening Eve meets Karen Richards, Margo's best friend. Karen takes pity on young Eve and decides to introduce the young woman to her hero. Margo, enchanted with Eve,s fascination for her, winds up giving her an opportunity to work as her personal assistant. All is well for the first few weeks, until Margo slowly realizes that Eve is trying to become her. She speaks like Margo, acts like her and even expresses the same opinions. Margo, fed up with Eves act, fires her. Eve turns to Karen for help and gets a new job as Margo's understudy at the theater. As the weeks go on, it is clear that Eve has used Margo as a stepping stone to become a famous actress, and will do anything and exploit anyone to get there.

THOUGHTS

All About Eve is one of the best scrips ever filmed. The story, while not great, is original and, for it's best time, inventive. Where the script really shines is the dialogue. Every character gets believable, intelligent lines to speak.
The dialogue, good as it is, would never have worked if the actors had invested their parts with the wit and desperation required of them. Bette Davis perfectly pulls off the insecurities and selfish tendencies of a middle-aged actress. Anne Baxter reveals her intentions of slyly, with an odd look or a thoughtful expression, giving you a peek of what Eve is to become from her first scene. If there is a problem with the film. its that it runs a little long and is marginally dated. After all, it is fifty years old. But it still manages to entertain, and rightfully deserves its status as a classic.
All about Eve was nominated for a record fourteen Academy Awards and won six, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay
. The film deserved every award it received...

SHOULD YOU SEE IT..

All about Eve has become a classic, even placing high on the American Film institute's 100 Greatest Movies list. It is a great script, full of juicy dialogue and the great characters.

You will enjoy this film
