Advantages: a good natural horror film, directed good etc.....

Disadvantages: lot's of stuff see inside

I first heard about this film when I went to see "Vacancy" at the cinema 2 whole years ago (I was 14 and managed to get into a 15). Anyhow, I felt drawn to this film when the coming soon trailer for it came on, me and my friends said we would definitely go and see it. Only then later on we found out that the certificated person certified it as an 18, I knew it'd be impossible for me or my friends to get in. So we left it and forgot about it. Not long after the DVD came out (which I hadn't even known it had come out) and one of my friends had got it. So we all huddled around the TV at about 4pm (but we turned off the lights and shut the curtains and also it was getting darker outside, which was even better) and just watched the film. After watching it I vowed that I'll be buying it soon, and that's what I did (it was 3 for £20 in HMV, but now you should find it for 4 for £20).

The director of this film is Jonathan Levine. He has the same name as me, so to be honest that draws me into his films straight away! He is a new director and his first film was in 2004 with "shards", the next film was "Love Bytes" in 2005, then it was this film, and then his latest one was called "The Wackness". I am interested in seeing all these films because the directing skills are really shown off in this film and that what made this film seem really good. If you think of the story line (well the ones who have watched this film) and you'd think that the writers of this film haven't put much in it, when the director has worked with a very simple story-line, and made it seem real and effective which means Jonathan Levine could be directing a few more films in the movie industry, and I do believe he will make a name for himself sometime!

The main character of the film is obviously Mandy Lane. She is played by Amber Heard. Mandy Lane is a girl in school who all the boys want to get with, but they have no chance. She keeps herself to herself. Amber Heard is a known actress and she's starring in more and more films as she gets older and older. She has been in quite a few films since 2004, and her most noticeable and latest one is "Pineapple Express" where she plays Angie Anderson. She has 7 new films on the way out all of which she stars in these films are to be released during the rest of 2009 and all the way through 2010.

The film starts off with what I would call a prologue (that's what it would be called in a book) this is where the film shows an important bit that happened in the past before the real story begins. They are at a pool party and this guy fancies Mandy Lane. Mandy's friend then goes and sits on the roof and waited for the boy to come up there. Her friend then persuades the guy to jump off the roof and into the pool, by telling him that Mandy would be impressed. Only the guy misses the pool and dies. Then we fast forward to what we would call the present day, where Mandy is no longer friends with the guy who was on the roof because he helped kill someone, and Mandy is in with the popular group. She is asked to go on holiday with them, and she says yes. Only there's someone out there killing all her friends.

This was a good film, with a most obvious but oblivious twist. It took me by surprised, the first time I watched it, and then it took me by surprise a second time when I watched it. The acting was good and it's directing made it seem even better. The thing that may note down the rating would be the script, because there is very little story behind it and Jonathan Levine would have to have worked with that. It's just hard to imagine having to work with such a simple story out-line. The acting was okay, it wasn't the best, but it was still good but other people would have a total different idea and may think that the acting was rubbish. I really felt sorry for Mandy Lane towards the end where she had to crawl through the mud and everything; I'd hate the idea of doing just that. But then again it goes to show how much of a good actress she is, otherwise she wouldn't have done that and therefore it shows that she (Amber Heard) can really get into a good role and make it seem real.

I also think this is one for the teens. as people who's older (sorry trying not to offend anyone) would find some things disturbing, and generally boring based on the fact that they are secluded in a house where they end up doing nothing except being scared, people would find that bit boring but then again maybe not. It all depends on what sort of person you are.

I really enjoyed this film, and so did all my friends, we all have the exact same DVD now, so it goes to show that the film should have been a 15 at least. The thing that would make this an 18 is the sex bit. It's controversial, but you don't literally watch it. This would be fine for a 15 year old (in my opinion) because they are 1 year younger than the legal age. And not only that, can't they change the 15 rating into a 16 rating, because this film is no where near as bad as, let's say, the last house on the left (which I haven't watched but friends have said it's over disturbing) and Bruno (another film that I haven't seen but been told it's overly disturbing). So surely they should change a rating or put a new one in!

There are only 2 special features on this DVD, which I haven't watched. These are:
-UK Exclusive Interview with Amber Heard
-Theatrical Trailer.

There aren't that many, and I was expecting some deleted scenes, but there is no sign of any, so I presume everything went to plan.

I shall attempt to watch more films directed by Jonathan Levine. And not just because he has the same name as me!

I thank you for reading and rating and commenting, and I hope I can get more tips!

Sorry for the rating, but this review reads as if it were written by someone who was on drugs. It's all just written with every single thought of yours typed out and posted whereas this would be a lot more helpful and would read a lot better if you applied some editting to the review and cut out some of the stuff that's really not necessary in a review of this film. Even now, the only thing I can remember from your review is that the actress has lots of films coming out soon... I can't remember anything you said about the fiulm itself. Sorry.

Excellent work. My faith in our educational system is constantly restored by some of the very talented younger writers on this site - of which you are certainly one. Nicely done 8^)
