Garlanded with Golden Globes, Bafta nominations and Oscar rumours, this is the most over-rated cinema event of the year, a bafflingly heavy-handed coming-of-age nostalgia-fest about the early 1970s rock scene, apparently based on director Cameron Crowe's own teenage adventures in rock journalism. It systematically pulls the teeth from rock ... Read the complete review

I really enjoyed "Almost famous". It reminds me of "Boogie Nights" in many ways - the central character is simply doing what he enjoys doing most, and ends up getting paid handsomely for it. That's one way of looking at their storylines, anyway! And who is better experienced than Cameron Crowe, who used to write for ... Read the complete review

I think "Almost famous" is the best rock and roll movie ever made. Director Cameron Crowe, with his experience of writing for the Rolling Stone as a tender teenager, has had perhaps the best grounding you could ever wish to have. Despite his age, he toured with many big bands in the 70s, and got to see it all first hand. And much of ... Read the complete review

This film is based loosely on Cameron Crowe's own experiences on the road, writing for Rolling Stone magazine in the mid 70s (age 15!), and if even half of the stuff in the film happened, he must have had one hell of a time :D There are standout performances by many of the cast, including Frances McDormand and Kate Hudson, Goldie ... ...and the sex, and the drugs, and the rock and roll! Back in the early seventies when director Cameron Crowe was just a teenager, he followed a rock band around on tour and then wrote an article about them for Rolling Stone magazine. Years later, he decided to make a semi-autobiographical movie about his experiences, with the outcome ... Read the complete review

Almost Famous, is a coming of age tale set in the 1970's about a sheltered 15 year old, william who lands himself a job as a rock critic working for rolling stone magazine, covering a tour of fictional Band, Stillwater. The film charts Williams loss of innocence as he devolops relationships with Penney lane a glamourous "band aid" ... Read the complete review

Almost famous is the story of a 15-year-old who from luck and pluck, is assigned by the rolling stone magazine to do a profile of a rising rock band in 1973. Driven by his genuine love of music, inspired by an ageing rock critic and watched over by his collage professor mum, his adventures are fabulous and against the odds, believable. The ... Lester Bangs: You CANNOT make friends with the rock stars. That's what's important. If you're a rock journalist -- first, you will never get paid much. But you will get free records from the record company. And they'll buy you drinks, you'll meet girls, they'll try to fly you places for free, offer you drugs... I know. It ... All of Cameron Crowe's movies are incredibly warm and fuzzy, and all of the conflicts and tragedies within them are resolved without the usual pain and suffering you get in dramas. In 'Singles' even a miscarriage is ultimately swept away in the final romantic conclusion. The other consistent element in all Crowe's movies ... Read the complete review

What an incredible film! I loved this one. When I went to see it, I had no real idea of what is was about, what style of film it was, nothing. My partner had heard a review and said he wanted to see it and so I went along too. I was very pleasantly surprised. This film is about a young boy, gifted for his years, who want to be a rock and ... Read the complete review

I am the type of person who doesn't like to admit to following trends. I was a Beatlefan before everybody started to listen to Oasis and the Beatles Anthology made everyone mention them in conversation, at which point I played down the fact that I was a big fan of The Beatles. My film preferences are films like Detroit Rock City, so Almost ... Read the complete review

While I was in the states this was the movie which got rave reviews across the board. This is a rare thing in the US I've found so I went along with one of my film student friends. The film is based on Crowes young life as a journalist for Rolling Stone magazine. The main character William goes to write an article on Black Sabbath ... Read the complete review

Fortunately, when I went in to see the press screening of 'Almost Famous', I'd forgotten that its director, Cameron Crowe, was responsible for the sickeningly saccharine 'Jerry Maguire', otherwise this might have coloured my expectations. As it was, I thoroughly enjoyed 'Almost Famous'… right up to the ending, but ... Read the complete review
