American Sweethearts is the brand new comedy with an all star cast. How many films can boast a line up of Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta Jones, John Cusack and Billy Crystal? Good cast or not could American Sweethearts live up to the hype? Read on and you will find out.

American Sweethearts is about America's greatest film duo Eddie Thomas and Gwen Harrison (John Cusack and Catherine Zeta Jones). The couple have starred in many romantic movies together and were even an item in real life. Gwen has an affair with a Spanish guy and the couple seperate after making one last film. The seperation send Eddie over the edge and he attempts to kill Gwen. Eddie heads off to therapy to get over the split and Gwen sets up home with her spanish lover.

Billy Crystal plays publicist Lee Phillips (Billy Crystal) who has the hard task of getting the couple together to promote their last film. The film is film studios last chance to make some money. The owners are under a lot of pressure to deliver a box office success so Phillips is under pressure to get the duo together to promote the movie. He gets the help of Gwens sister Kiki (Julia Roberts).

The film is a romantic comedy between the three main characters. Eddie obviously still has a crush on Gwen whilst Kiki has a secret desire to be with Eddie as well. The only one missing out is Billy Crystals character who is far more interested in trying to get as much exposure of the couple as possible. American Sweethearts is a very clever and funny movie which is predictable at times but never boring.

The cast as first mentioned is excellent. I am a fan of all the main actors/actresses in this movie. John Cusack is his usual cool self. He is such a good actor and fits into the role of Eddie with no problems. Julia Roberts does not have the main role in this movie but still does an excellent job. I was interested to see how she would cope with a comedy role but she comes out of it well. Catherine Ze
ta Jones plays Gwen the spoilt actress and does a sound job. She is probably the weakest link in the film but that is only because she has so many good quality people around her. He character is annoying but I suppose she deserves credit for making her that way. Star of the film is Billy Crystal. I read somewhere that orginally he wrote the movie with someone else in mind for his role. I am glad that he decided to take part. He has the best lines in the movie and everything he did was funny. Christopher Walken also has a small part in this movie and his best parts are saved for the end of the movie.

American Sweethearts is not going to win any awards but for sheer entertainment it deserves something. There are some very funny moments which I was not expecting and the overall acting is first class. If you are after a good nights entertainment then I can throughly recommend American Sweethearts. Whilst not being as funny as recent smash hit American Pie 2 there is plenty to offer in this movie. In a year where there have been very few quality comedies American Sweethearts is like a breath of fresh air.
