Advantages: Very funny , Jason Biggs, Effective storyline

Disadvantages: Stifler's constant use of swear words.

American Pie was one of the surprise hits of a few years ago. Pitched against Phantom Menace and Austin Powers 2 surely this no holds barred comedy wasnt going to be a success. Well it was and this years sees the return of Jim and friends for another 2 hours of full on laughs.

Before I write this review let me say that I am a huge fan of the first movie so American Pie 2 was the film that I was looking forward to this summer. Well on Tuesday I managed to see an advanced preview of the movie over two weeks before it is relesed.

The story is pretty simple for this sequel but works very well. The makers of the movie have done well to keep all the same characters from the original. Jason Biggs returns as the sexually frustrated Jim. Jim is still having no luck with women but still has an admirer in Nadia(Shannon Elizabeth). After returning home from college Jim and his friends realise that home is no longer the great party place. So the group of friends decide to go on a vacation and drink and party with women. Oz (Chris Klein) , Stifler (Seann William Scott), Kevin and Finch all join Jim. The storyline as you can see is very basic but that is not what American Pie is about. Fans of the original will know that it is about comical moments which the characters get into. Well American Pie 2 doesnt disappoint on that front. Some of the incidents are extremely funny and it makes me wonder how the film actually got a 15 rating. Be prepare for a classic lesbian scenes as well as some sticky situations!

The actors and actresses all seem to enjoy the roles they have. I have seen a few interviews with the cast and they all seemed to enjoy making the movie. Biggs is excellent as the main character. He is very brave to do some of the things in this movie. Also worth mentioning is Eugene Levy who plays Jims dad. In the first movie he was very funny but for the sequel he is more of an understanding father.

One thing that did spoil American Pie 2 w
as Stifler's character. For some reason every time he is on screen is needs to constantly swear. I am not against swearing a little in movies if the scenes needs it, however it is unnessary in this movie and not funny.

In a year of disappointing movies American Pie 2 is a welcome movie. It is just as funny as the original and well worth watching. The expectations that I had meant that the film was bound to be a disappointment. However I am glad to report that American Pie 2 is a very funny movie. Go and see it! Without doubt my favourite movie of this year.
