Advantages: Great light hearted film, great laugh
Disadvantages: None
It is not often that a sequel gets close to being as good as the original. Well I have found one recently, I can safely say that American Pie 2 is just as good as the first if not better. One of the most important reasons behind the success of both films is the way they have got the same crew back together. Not just the actors have come back, but more importantly all the same backing people are here. Produced by Paul Weitz, Chris Weitz and Adam Hertz and directed by J.B Rogers the whole writing and production team have come back to make it a success. The whole thing continues where it left off with the same humor and comes back just as good. The same gang from the first film are just home from their first year in college. They continue their pact to have the best summer of their lives. After the police bust their original party venue they have to look for a new place. They end up renting a house next to the lake and end up planning for the biggest party of their lives. Jim (Jason Biggs) is very unlucky in his love life and ends up in some embarrassing situations. It seems the more embarrassing the situations he gets in, the more funny it is to watch him. He had an unpleasant incident with Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) in the original when something mistakenly got broadcasted on the Internet. Jim finds she is coming to the end of summer party and wants to satisfy her. To help him in this he confides in Michelle who teaches him a few tricks. Stiffler is the guy you want to hate, rude arrogant and cocky but is at the same time a great person to watch and comes up with some funny moments. Finch is acting older and more sophisticated than the others and is again a funny character. He got up with Stiffler’s Mum, and is still obsessed in the second helping. Oz (Chris Klein) is a great guy, but not as good to watch as the others. He is going out with Heather who has moved to Spain for the summer and are missing each other in a long distance relationsh
ip. Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Vicky (Tara Reid) add more romance and problems and a laugh along the way. Jim’s dad (Eugene Levy) adds more embarrassment for Jim and is one of the stars in my opinions. Basically I found the film hilarious from start to finish. It is my sort of film, though it may not be to everyone’s tastes as it contains bad language and lots of rude moments. There is a nasty situation with superglue for Jim when he picks up the wrong tube. Stiffler, Finch and Jim also break into a house of who they think are lesbians, that again results in an embarrassing yet funny scene. The film does however have some serious moments. Kevin especially confronts some of the situations that are tricky around that time of life. Jim faces up to what he really is an does the right thing in the end. All the others have serious things, these are regular teenagers who are going off to college and abroad trying to keep relationships going. Ok, so it a funny film but it is believable and often easy to relate to read life. The DVD version does not have the awesome special effects or actions scenes of some great DVDs, but it is still a great buy. It comes full of special features, though not a huge number are great quality and continue the theme well. The Baking of American Pie is the standard making off, but with lots of nice touches and all done lighthearted and good to watch. The outtakes are good and as always funny and there are commentaries from the cast and crew about the film in general. The deleted scenes are not great, there is no explanation and little new things and there is the music video from 3 Doors Down ‘Be Like That’. The DVD is only in the English language, but there are subtitles for English and Hindi. Overall a great sequel and a great standalone movie. Great entertainment and very funny, though it is dirty teen humor. Not necessary to have seen the original, though this does continue on str
aight away from it with no introduction to characters. Top comedy film.
