For viewers who are yearning for a good, old-fashioned romantic movie, An Affair To Remember is a very good choice.

Opening on an ocean liner returning to America from Europe, the film tells the story of infamous playboy Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant), and nightclub singer Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr). Both engaged to other people, they happen to meet by chance and an immediate attraction is born. After spending time together both onboard and visiting Nickie's grandmother in France, they come to the decision that they must avoid each other to end temptation.

However, before the ship docks in the United States, they confess their love to each other and agree to meet at the top of the Empire State Building in six months if they are both still sure of their match.

The movie then shows Nickie and Terry during their time apart, leaving their respective partners and both working to save for their life together. On the day of their meeting both are eager to reunite, but a tragic accident awaits leaving both wondering if they will ever find happiness with the love they found at sea.

An Affair To Remember is a wonderful classic, going back to the days when film was much more simple and hearfelt. A remake of the 1939 movie Love Affair, film buffs will remember that this is the movie that inspired Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle.
