Advantages: In my opinion, just as funny as the first movie.
Disadvantages: But not too original.
Analyze That is the 2002 Sequel to the hugely successful 1999 Movie Analyze This, once again its directed by Harold Ramis ( of Ghostbusters Fame ) and stars Billy Crystal and Robert DeNiro.
The Plot:
Mobster boss Paul Vitti ( Robert DeNiro ) is nearing the end of his prison sentence in Sing Sing, however his life starts to become endangered by attempted hits and as a result he starts to fake insanity by singing showtunes from "West Side Story" , This draws the attention of the FBI who contact Ben Sobel ( Billy Crystal ) to ask his opinion of Vitti's state of mind, under duress Sobel is forced to take Vitti into his own custody and shortly after discovers Paul's insanity is only a ploy to get out of prison.
Vitti attempts to find a real job after being persuaded by Ben and tries his hand at everything from a Jewellry Store salesman, Maitre D at a restaurant and my personal favourite, a car salesman ( Thats what I do for a living ) however his rude manners and paranoia mess up each job.
Not long after he discovers that the Rigazzi family are the ones who wish him dead, he responds to this by telling the Rigazzi's that he is 'out' and will be finding a new line of work, he finds himself a techical advisor on a 'Sopranos' style show, however all this is a distraction for people as Vitti is assembling his old crew and planning a big heist, something that Ben gets wind of and ends up unwittingly drawn into.
Analyze That is generally regarded as the weaker of the two movies, I myself find the movie as funny as its predecessor, maybe some of the jokes are carried over from the first one, but I do find the parody of the Soprano's quite amusing and the role of Vitti as technical advisor ( something that does happen in Hollywood with mob movies and TV shows ) to be a nice addition to the humour of the movie.
Anyone expecting anything new will be disappointed, but if you're expecting a movie thats as funny as the first one, and something you can switch your brain off to and sit back and watch the on-screen chemistry between Crystal and DeNiro create comic excellence, then this is the Movie for you.
Summary: A genuinely funny movie, that continues the great partnership between DeNiro and Crystal
