Angel Eyes (DVD) ... released 25 March, 2002 at Warner Home Video / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / Angel Eyes is a mature and level-headed drama about real people with authentic emotions, clawing through their own hurt and confusion toward a hopeful recovery. In a subtly effective performance as Chicago cop Sharon Pogue, Jennifer Lopez is both gutsy and vulnerable, using her badge as a shield against a past incident of domestic violence that left her estranged from her family and alone with her conviction that good deeds are not always rewarded. This leaves her open to the mysterious appeal of Catch (Jim Caviezel), a haunted loner whose slightly creepy demeanour is merely the cautious façade of a man who, ultimately, has as much to offer Sharon as she does him. They connect--he saves her life, just as she once saved his--and Angel Eyes proceeds to reveal the true and fateful depth of their love. It seems, at first, that Gerald Di Pego’s script will turn in a supernatural direction--or at least a metaphysical one--but it doesn’t, and director Luis Mandoki navigates an emotional minefield while acknowledging the walls that people build between themselves and the traumatic events they wish to forget. Catch has kept a deliberate distance between himself and a tragedy that Sharon had witnessed--not a repressed nightmare, but a devastating loss from which he will, eventually, recover. That these two characters should rediscover each other at a time of mutual need is not a contrived coincidence. In Angel Eyes, it’s the karmic redemption for two wise and deserving souls.--Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Thankfully I haven?t seen Maid In Manhattan (which was apparently dire) ? in fact I only remember seeing J Lo before in Anaconda, and her performance here was probably better than there (as far as I recall it). Premium Review Angel Eyes (DVD): Not quite the J-Lowest level (897 words)

Often before watching a film on TV I check reviews on Dooyoo before doing so. If that had been the case with Angel Eyes I probably wouldn?t have bothered watching it (3 of the 4 reviews are very negative). As it was, I saw a trailer about an hour before it came on Channel 4 one Sunday night and, with not much else to do, thought I might as well give it a watch. It was only after I checked the reviews, and I?m surprised how negative they are. Sure, this is hardly a *great* film. It?s not one I?m telling you that you *must* see. I?m writing this just to redress the balance a bit. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Low Low Lopez (804 words)

There seems to be much talk about whether or not Queen Diva Jennifer Lopez can cut it as an actress. I have to say that I have watched her in a few films and not thought that she was terrible, and I could probably name another 10 well paid Hollywood actresses who I think are inferior to her. I am sure she will never win any Oscars, but she entertains, and that is what her job is, so up to now I have no complaints about her performance on the big screen, or in her parallel career as a singer. By no means am I her number one fan, but I find her pretty inoffensive, but anyway onto the film. The ...  Read the complete review

This is one of the worst films I have seen. Coming from me, who has happily sat through mountains of rotten wastes of celluloid, that's a strong statement. This is the worst type of film making, cynically cashing in on a star without any visible effort or attempt to entertain. Did the studio really think they had a winner on their hands with this? did they read the script? Did they actually watch the dailies and think 'Yeah ! This is looking good !' ? This is not a film, it is a product, and a desperately dull, shoddy one at that. Even as I write this opinion, my hands are shaking with rage..... The plot concerns Lopez as a cop, who is haunted by her ...  Read the complete review

Angel Eyes In her latest on-screen role, Jennifer Lopez is a tough cop from Chicago names Sharon Pogue. In what must be about her hundredth film this year alone (ok, maybe not) she really des seem to be everywhere at the moment, be it singing, acting, you name it! However, few would argue that she is talented at both, and this is another example of her fine acting capabilities. Sharon has no family, no prospects and basically no life, and the time has come and hit her hard in the face where she realises so. She, and the people around her constantly dwell on the negative and things really are starting to get her down, with a notable example of this ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Angel Eyes (DVD): J Lo Can Act! (599 words)

"The Deeper You Look. The More You Will Find" - or so the tagline to the film states... This is the first film I have watched where Jennifer Lopez has been among the cast, and I am pleased to say I was pleasantly suprised. I know she has her critics out there, but for me she played the part of Chicago Police Officer, Sharon Pogue, very well. THE STORY =============== (This opinion does not contain spoilers - reading it will not spoil the film for you if you haven't seen it) The film starts at the scene of an accident. It's not clear exactly what has happened, but Sharon (J Lo) is comforting a victim of the crash who is still ...  Read the complete review
