Advantages: Lorne!!!
Disadvantages: Wak Episodes
You should know by now that me and my husband are obsessed with watching Angel and we have just finished the 3rd season out of 5. What I found with this season was that it had some dull moments which was a shame but overall I still rate it well because it has the same comedy, fun characters and scary episodes so here is why.
I must warn you now that this review may contain spoilers form the first 2 seasons of Angel and also Buffy the Vampire Slayer so please don't continue reading if you don't want to know.
Ok so the story so far is that Angel investigations now has Angel, Gunn and Wesley heading it up. In this season they are joined by Fred who they have just found in the mystical dimension of Pylea and also the brilliant karaoke singing demon Lorne. There are some mysteries about Fred to find out and Cordelia's visions get worse the more she has. We also have the addition of Darla coming back with some very surprising news.
So that's the continuum stories that are throughout Angel series 3 but apart from that you have a lot of episodes which are stand alone which is always good. As always though it is best to watch this season of Angel in order so you fully understand what is going on and all of the back stories. This series is very dark in places and has some pretty nasty things happen so series 3 is the grittiest series of Angel so far.
My favourite episode in this series is called Waiting in the wings where Angel investigations takes a night off to go to see a ballet show. It is hilarious and quite a good episode in terms of show revelations which of course I will not spoil for you here. You also have a great character addition with Skip who spends some time with Cordelia teaching her about choices which is good. Then Wesley also gets good play in this season with his grittier side which is pure genius.
The characters have all stayed the same but Fred who is quite new to the team is fantastic. She is played by a brilliant actress Amy Acker who is so sweet and wonderful. I especially like the episode where some demons recognise she is smart and want her to solve a puzzle for them. Then you have her involvement in a great love triangle.
My favourite character though still is Lorne as I think Andy Hallett has done a great job of playing him and he brightens up any episode. My husband is obsessed with Lorne and even can't make his mind up if he prefers him or Spike in Buffy now as Lorne is so great.
The thing with this season is it has one running story throughout which I can't spoil for you but it does get a little boring towards the middle but then picks up again towards the end. It is bearable though so we still enjoyed it. What I will also say is this season is nasty at times and I have seen them before but the amount of times I have seen my husband gasp at what's happening or say that creeps him out is hilarious to me.
I think series 3 of Angel is still fabulous and although there are a few poor episodes they are still worthy to watch. The show starts off very strong, has a small weak patch with about 5 episodes in the middle and then it picks up big time giving you an ending that I bet nobody could predict.
Season 3 of Angel is a certificate 15 and there are 22 episodes with 17 of them being brilliant and 5 mediocre. They each last for around 40 minutes as usual.
I am going to give season 3 4 stars as I loved it but it's a shame about the weaknesses. Most of those stars though are for the pure genius of Lorne and the ultra cuteness of Fred who I will guarantee you will love. Plus with a new grittier Wesley this se3ason is a winner in my eyes and I will watch again in the future.
Thanks for reading.

Summary: A Worthy Season.

- 03/11/09 It's a shame the world lost Andy Hallett earlier this year.
I'm personally a James Marsters/Spike fan, but Lorne/Andy wasn't far behind :) |
