Angels & Demons (Angels and Demons (DVD))

Advantages: The exciting sequence of events that is set all around Rome Disadvantages: Events are exciting, but sometimes this goes overboard and become totally ridiculous Robert Langdon is now needed by the Vatican to stop an impending deadly attack that would completely wipe out the foundation of the Catholic Church. With a lot more violence, frantic pace and Tom Hanks' noticeably shorter hair, "Angels and Demons" proved to a lot more entertaining than its predecessor, "The DaVinci Code." Although we all know that there is no way the Vatican will be destroyed at the end of the film, the countdown of the anti-matter bomb (I still can't quite understand how it all works, not that you really need to to enjoy this film) that exists throughout the film is nevertheless an incredibly effective device that builds up plenty of tension. Ewan McGregor seems a little too young to play his role but he performs to absolutely fine standards. Even within this whirl of entertainment, there are fatal flaws with the film - the supporting characters are just way too unhelpful and become somewhat unbelievable and unconvincing - and because of this, it is incredibly to easy what the final twist is, even without having read the book beforehand. some events are just so preposterous (which largely the fault of the book, I guess) that they're laughable but that is also the unexpected fun nature of the film. Summary: An improvement from "The DaVinci Code" - this is pure, adrenaline-fuelled entertainment |
