Angels and Demons is another film based on the best selling books written by Dan Brown. I have to confess that I am one of the few people who never read The Da Vinci Code although I did watch the film. I therefore sat down to watch Angels and Demons not knowing what the storyline was about.

The film begins with the death of the Pope and as the Vatican get ready to elect a new pope four of the most likely successors are kidnapped. They are believed to be kidnapped by someone working for the Illuminati an old religious group and are threatening to murder them one by one.

Robert Langdon (played by Tom Hanks) is sent for because of his successful detective work in the Da Vinci code and works alongside Vittoria Vettra who is a scientist who has created an explosive antimatter which has been stolen by the Illuminati and will be used as a bomb with devastating consequences.

Together Langdon and Vettra chase around Rome trying to solve the clues and uncover the mysteries of the Vatican to try to save the cardinals. Can they make it in time or will the Vatican be destroyed?

I enjoyed the film, Tom Hanks is great as Langdon and makes the character quite believable. His character outshines his partner Vettra, I don't know if this is just in the film or whether it is in the book too but her role is much smaller and quite insignificant.

I think I possibly enjoyed the film more because I hadn't read the book so you don't know what is coming next and there are plenty of twists and turns that take you by surprise. If you have already read the book then these surprises are not going to be there.

Another enjoyable part of the film is seeing Rome which is a city that I really enjoyed visiting so it was great to see parts that you had been to and adds to the atmosphere of the film.

It is by no means the best film I have ever seen but it was enjoyable and I am glad I watched it.

There are some interesting features on the special features section and if you enjoyed the film they are well worth a watch. I really enjoyed seeing the lengths that they go to to make authentic props, things that take days and days to make then only appear in the film for a few seconds. It just goes to show how much work they put in to make the film authentic and good quality.

The DVD is available from Amazon for £11.98

Summary: An enjoyable film based on the Dan Brown Book.

I'd like to read the book before watching the film.
Well reviewed.

I had never read the book and so the casting of the film really spoilt the plot in my opinion. I do love Ewan McGregor though.
