Advantages: Great story
Disadvantages: Had a difficult time to get in to the film
Intro
Angels and Demons is a film based on a book by Dan Brown, which I think all of you know already. Dan Brown sold millions of copies and people are reading his books all over the world. I found it difficult to get into his books and had the same problem with this film.
Plot
In Switzerland scientists have succeeded to create antimatter which is later stolen from their facility. Professor Robert Langdon is brought to Vatican after a threat has been made by the Illuminati to murder four of their cardinals. He is now faced with the ultimate test on his knowledge to find the threat and stop the attack. Will he make it in time?
Opinion
I thought it was very difficult to get in to the film. I understood what was going on but I didn't get that feeling of panic and relief that I think Ron Howard tried to deliver. The acting was good but was not very convincing due to fact that I didn't feel anything when I was watching it. During the whole duration of the film it was a constant hype, the action never stopped and Robert Langdon never stopped. There was no time for breathers or even thinking of what just happened. It was a constant journey filled with action and the climax was always there to try and keep you interested. I didn't turn it off, which I never do, I did want to see the whole film from start to finish and I did. I don't regret watching it but I can't say I enjoyed it very much.
In my opinion, there was too much going on all the time. I would have liked it if there was room for the viewer to think about what they saw instead of trying to keep that level of interest high at all times. I am not saying it wasn't interesting it's just that it was probably too interesting. The book is quite long and the film is 2 hours and 13 minutes is average for a film in this category. Ron Howard did manage to get all the important details into the film but I think it would be better if the film was longer so everything that is going on wasn't crammed into just over 2 hours.
On the other hand, making the film longer could possibly make the audience loose interest and even patience.
I do recommend seeing this film but try not to have high expectations. I do regret buying it but I am actually quite pleased with missing it in the cinema otherwise I would have paid £7 to see it. I hope you found this review useful enough to make a decision but when it comes to film I always think it is best to see it and make up your own mind about it.
Summary: See it and make up your own mind
