------------------------------------------------Intro----------------------------- ------------------------ Following several futile efforts to obtain the Animatrix short cartoons from the hinterweb I finally took the plunge and expunged myself of nearly three whole British pounds by renting “The Animatrix” from the library. It turns out it was a sound investment and, I expect, in the not too distant future (possibly when the three movies are packaged with the Animatrix in a groovy special collectors edition) I’ll actually shell out and own a copy of this fantastic ride in to the world of The Matrix. The Animatrix takes us, as might ... Read the complete review

Background When most people think of the matrix now they think "oh no not that" as the second two movies of the trilogy were pretty abominable however you cannot condemn the first movie along with these. The first movie really did bring a whole new dimension to the evolution of technology and artificial intelligence, and the animatrix really expands upon the background of the movies. I was reading other peoples reviews on dooyoo who were complaining about how "bad" the animation was in the animatrix but I really doubt they could make anything that could compare to the style of artists who contributed to the first 9 short ... When I first heard the news of an animated series based on the world of The Matrix I had a very sceptical reaction. Afterall some of the worst kids shows I've seen have been based on some of the most enjoyable Hollywood blockbusters. However the more I thought about it the more the idea started to make sense. The Matrix (at least the first one) is possibly the best live action interpretation of Japanese animation ever seen, and from the looks of the screen shots this series would follow the next logical step with a Japanese style animated series set in the world of The Matrix. More than that The Wachowski Brothers had been making some pretty lofty promises that The ... Read the complete review

The Animatrix is without a doubt one of the greatest roller coaster journeys of various innovative Japanese anime art styles to date. Each story helps set up the Matrix Reloaded perfectly and gives you a far broader knowledge of the Matrix story. Although each story leaves you without an equilibrium, each ending is strikingly disappointing (well nearly all) and the story itself is often underdeveloped the Animatrix is nothing but essential. Each story adds depth to Reloaded, a film that is very linear in structure, there is no side story there and so the Animatrix helps make up for that. The daddy of the animated shorts is "apparently" the "Final ... Read the complete review

How you respond to “The Animatrix” depends on how much you like the Wachowski brothers’ vision as seen in “The Matrix” motion pictures. Aside from a few visual effects innovations, The “The Animatrix” DVD offers the following short films: --“Final Flight of the Osiris” --“The Second Renaissance Part I” and “The Second Renaissance Part II” --“Kid’s Story” --“Program” --“World Record” --“Beyond” --“A Detective Story” --“Matriculated” The Final Flight Of The Osiris: The crew of the hovercraft Osiris must get a message back to Zion, a message of ...
