Advantages: Beautiful story, innocent, beautiful location
Disadvantages: None
In my opinion this DVD is a must see for any little girl and her mother as it truly is a very delightful story, an absolute classic that will never get old with time.
It is based on the books by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
It is about an orphan, Anne who goes to live in Green Gables, Avonlea, on Prince Edward island with an old lady and her brother. Anne is played terrificly well by the Canadian actress Megan Follows and has the well renound actress Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla Cutherbert. Megan has perfect red hair just like Anne does in the book. I haven't really seen her in much after this, she is not much older but this will always be her defining role.
The films basically follow Anne as she grows up and all the trials and tribulations of being an orphan, having to act politely in grown up situations and the fact that she does not like her red hair! Each of the storylines is quite PG but that is the beauty of this story, it is set in a time when things were different and children had respect for their elders although Anne did like to push the boundaries when it came to this.
As the story progresses and it moves on in time it also follows the love story between her and Gilbert Blythe.
It is set in a truly wonderful time, of innocence and will really make you teary eyed in places.
The scenery is breathtaking and Prince Edward Island is somewhere I have always wanted to visit after watching these DVD's over and over again. The costumes are also amazing, especially Anne's puffed sleeve ball dress that Matthew buys for her (a touching moment in the DVD's)
A DVD that you will watch over and over again and will make you fall in love with Anne.
