Annie oh Annie. This has to be one of my favourite films of all times. I have watched it over and over and over again. Each time I have laughed, sang along and almost cried. I think it has such a moving storyline that anyone of any age can enjoy it.
In case you don’t know Annie is a red headed orphan. The story is based around Annie who was left on the doorstep of the orphanage as a baby. She is forever trying to escape and the other orphans love her. Miss Hannigan is in charge of the orphanage and she is so nasty to the children it makes you feel really sorry for them. Annie’s luck is in when Mr Warbucks, a rich businessman sends his assistant in search of an orphan to spend Christmas at his house. Annie turns out to be the lucky orphan and says bye to her fellow orphans. When she gets to the house she offers to start cleaning and is shocked when they don’t expect her to do any work. At first Mr Warbucks is not impressed as he wanted a girl but he grows to love her. He decides to try and make Annies day and sets out to find her real parents. He offers a reward and the response is amazing. They are all in it for the money and they don’t even know who Annie is. Miss Hannigan and her brother then involve themselves. I will not tell you more encase you have never seen the film or musical before. I have seen the film hundreds of times but have only seen the musical once. I did like the musical but they had to change the ending due to stage space.
If you have not seen this before watch it, it is great for the whole family. I loved it as a kid and I still love it now.
The best thing about the show is the music. I first watched this when I was very young and I loved it. I used to go around the house much to the dismay of my parents singing all the songs. I am not a great singer and I think the songs where best left on the television but I tried. I have to admit that I still sing some of the songs today. I think you can always find an An
nie song appropriate for the mood you are in. For example last summer I spent three weeks working in a salad factory desperate to earn extra cash to pay off my student overdraft. I don’t know how I would have got through the hours of boredom without Annie. I packed the salad bags in time to ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’. Fellow workers must have thought I was crazy but it got me through the day.
Other songs that are famous from Annie are Tomorrow, I think I am going to like it here, and many others.
